Anyone here ?
I'm here until Sunday morning - chaperoning a friend (and that's the best way I can describe it, else 'keeping her out of trouble' would be #2) around Paris, while she is here ostensibly to attend a big medical conference 'EULAR'
Tonight's likely a writeoff, she just arrived, but could meet for drinks/dinner almost any other night, especially a non tourist dinner, ie, where the menu is in one language, not four ...
or will settle for what/where your fav restaurant in Paris is, again, hopefully 'non-tourist', don't mind travelling a bit - availed myself of a Navigo pass, so Im mobile within 1-5 zones

Just missed you! I was there 30 years before on a school-sport trip...

I pity you. Paris is like a worn out old prostitute lying in a ditch, reselling the same tired old formula, and with every passing year becoming less and less appealing.

Its got sod all else to recommend it, seriously. The people are wankers, the gypsys numerous, and the place filthy. It isn't certain who will be the first to rip you off, the gypsy pick pocket, the sh*tty and expensive hotel, the sh*tty restaurants, or the f***ing transport police (just remember to keeop you ticket till you EXIT the metro else they WILL shake you down. Wankers. )
i hate the place. If you want to go somewhere nice, go to Luxembourg city, Its prettier, cheaper, and more fun.

I worked there in the mid 90s and when we came to visit last May, we got the train into the centre and came out of the station directly opposite Galerie Kons, where I used to work. It hasn't changed a bit.

I remember you saying you worked there when I asked people what it was like; I was about to start a 2 year contract there.
Its a beautiful place, the Grund, Scotts bar, Liquid, the bar with money on the celing, the great Italian restaurants, the prossies hanging around the station. And the country side, and Germany being so close for cheap food and the Rhineland.
Its a great city, a great part of the world to live in.

I'd go back. In a shot. Summer nights in the Market Place, Chi Chi's and a pitcher or three of Marguerita. Oh yes.

Oh yeah. Chi Chis in the market. Never used to go to that part of town much, it was always the Grund for us. We used to live in a village 15 mins out towards Belgium, it was a nice mix, the city was close, but we had a big garden and huge house. There were about 8 of us lodging there, it was a lot of fun.

I lived out on Rue Gustav Kant - a mere 5 minutes bus ride from the centre, between Rue d'Arlon and Rue d'Auberpine.

I drove through Paris[^] not too long ago, I think. Not much to see or do, so I left.

Has anyone else seen the item about the Turing test being beaten...slightly terrifying, will Windows 10 boot to a black screen with a red dot in the middle and the chilling phrase "What are you doing Dave". I'm going home to unplug anything from the internet...
