There are a lot of Christmas parties on the 24th in the UK - The 25th is a day of food, presents, more food, booze, even more food, and children. Most of them eating. And tree worship, of course.
There are few parties on the day as most people are too far over the drink drive limit to be allowed near the car keys, let alone the car!

The Thai New Year (Songkran) is celebrated (in modern times) with the greatest hoop-la, water-throwing, highway fatality and accident rates, and religious rites, most intensely in Chiang Mai, center of the northern region of Thailand known as Lanna.
