The batteries are only used while other power sources (engines, APU) are off-line. In normal operation, they don't provide power, just (as you say) consume it to be recharged.
Although that would all change if this beastie[^] were to be made...

Interesting; essentially a turbo shaft powering propulsors. No apparent need for a bypass-type  engine unless the propulsors are supplementary.
Redundancy again.
Loss of the power bus would enable the fan to keep the craft aloft until a diversion could be found.

This sounds a lot like what this guy demonstrated a year ago[^]. So the news here probably isn't that its possible, but that someone else has done it.

Started installing the system and software on my new system. Right now on 100 of 147 Windows 7 updates so in limbo for a while.
Installing Wine on the SSD, had to do it twice guess the first time got corrupted or ?? But 2nd time installed just like it oughter.
Got a Windows experience index of 6.9 but it's because I have an old video card else it would have been 7.7

Although I used to love this show, this is totally insane! I really hate greed, and this almost makes me want NOT to watch the show, ever!! :unwell:
Also if I remember it right, they had to do the pilot episode again due to the so called "characters' emotions" were not proper during the first shoot. Aslo Kaley couldn't even get Penny's role out of her first audition.
Granted they have improved a lot since then, but it's still insane given that there are a lot many other fields like firefighers, cops, soldiers, teachers who do not get that much pile of money but they still do their jobs which are undoubtedly much more needed to the country..

I understand where you are coming from, but this point of view is rather naïve. I've learned that in modern society, you get paid based upon how easily you are replaced, not based upon how valuable your service is. Firefighters and cops perform necessary services, but individually they are easy to replace. The actors on that show are NOT easy to replace because theirs is a rare skill.
The difficult we do right away...

There's also a "superstar effect" in some industries (such as TV, sports, and mobile apps). In these industries, the cost of making a product for one person, a hundred people, or a million people is roughly the same. Even when other workers enter the market to compete, they have a hard time making money despite the total money in the market being so big.
In the case of the Big Bang Theory, the audience being huge gives the market a lot of money, the popularity of the show gives the show a lot of the market, and the tight connection of the actors' performance with the popularity of the show gives them a lot of negotiating power for the show's money.
In the case of firefighters, cops, soldiers, and teachers, there are hard limits on how many people they can serve at a time, limiting the amount they can gain from the superstar effect.
