I'd go for the i5 and the bigger size ram. Then I would try to get one of those SSD drives (if budget still allows) and just buy a robust USB drive for my data.

I come across this often enough, the huge fonts, little content, infinite vertical cheezy text and graphics that sort of fits in "chunks" on my monitor...
Personally, I think they suck. There's usually nothing meaningful on them, etc.

Ah yes, Bootstrap abuse.
Don't get me wrong, I like and use Bootstrap. Even in it's un-skinned form. Things like the grid layout and the nav menu components make it too easy to not use.
But when someone starts using the same actual layout as the Bootstrap site? That sort of thing needs to be addressed with large quantities of fire.

tl;dr - crap...
IMHO content is a different story - the design does not suck because the lack of content, but because of bad design...These are the main issues:
1. Scroll across different 'pages' but not stop between them, so even there was meaningful content you probably were loosing attention
2. Too much type-faces - kind and size and flavor. You never know on what to focus, so your eyes jump all over the 'page' without reading it really
3. Awful color schemes in 'pages' and between 'pages', that again makes the content unreachable...

I don't very much dislike the layout (it's pretty modern and stuff, like you say, huge fonts and little content).
It's not functional, but it looks pretty.
What is particulary wrong with this website is that it doesn't tell you what it is they do.
Handling Exceptions? So whenever my software fails to create an invoice Airbrake knows what to do (without me actually having to do anything)? Seems really very unlikely.
In .NET it's quite easy to just log every Exception anyway. Once they're in the database you can filter all you like and most of the time they're pretty easy to fix anyway (Object not set to instance of an object at [Stacktrace]).
I can't find anything about their product in .NET except that it is actually possible...

i think a lot of the motivaton for these designs is to make the "responsive web" that much easier to implement...

I've always assumed it was so they could guarantee the same experience on anything from a 3.5" fondleslab to a 36" desktop. that even if there's real content (which people using that style often forget) the experience is horrible on anything but tiny fondle slabs probably doesn't occur to the sunshines writing them because they have their fondleslab surgically embedded in their palm and never use anything else.
