Would you ever consider one? That is, putting your mind (thoughts, memories, etc.) into another brain/body.
I'm not even sure it will ever be possible to do. For one, the mind and the brain are intimately connected... that is, a change in thought can affect the physical structure of the brain, and vice versa. And supposing a brain could be built exactly like yours, what about removing things like cancer that you don't necessarily want; seems like that would be fraught with difficulties as well (i.e., if you remove the genetic trait that led to the "defect", would you be yourself or somebody different). And what if there is something inherent in this mind/brain dependency that ensures a mind can only grow so old?
I'm thinking the quickest path to mind transplants would be cloning (to reproduce your body/brain), nanotechnology (to restructure a cloned brain to be similar to your own), and "something" (I don't know what... something to transfer a snapshot of the electrical and chemical interactions within a brain during a single instant to effectively transfer a mind).
My bet, though, is that we'll go the easy route and transition to beings which are hard to discern from technology (like the Borg). For example, we could take past experiences and actions to infer a person's thought patterns so that we could mimic a their mind (similar to cylons). That mimicked mind could reside in a computer and have biological body parts attached.
Or maybe I've been watching too much Star Trek, BSG, Twilight Zone, and Bicentennial Man.

NOPE... I don't think so...
You forgot "Total Recall"

Total Recall is more of giving your mind a virtual environment to play in, like The Matrix. I'm talking about putting your mind into another physical brain/body (really, I could just say "body", but some people confuse the terms "mind" and "brain").

Question is if you dare to become someone else?

Nope, I'm not asking if you'd give up your brain/body to be host to another person's mind (a few movies have covered that subject... usually it's aliens who are invading). I'm asking if you'd transfer your mind to another brain/body (possibly a cloned version of your own body). One reason to do this would be to extend your lifespan.

I mean that even if it's your thoughts and memories, they will be in another brain with different synapses and therefore different functionality and therefore a different person.
Would you want a different person altogether to have all your memories? All of them!
Then again, Harold has a point.

That is why I mentioned the possibility of cloning (to replicate how your brain is likely to evolve over time) and nanotechnology (to mold that cloned brain into a physical state similar to your brain).
|
|
|
|

Ah, your thinking of "deep cloning", Because cloning in the way that is possible today as with Dolly the sheep, is just having the same DNA, but is effectively a different sheep.
I believe a complete atom by atom cloning is the only way to do a complete "memory transfer", because the connections between your brain cells ARE your memory.
Be excellent to each other. And... PARTY ON, DUDES!

Why wait that long? Why not, on your 40th birthday (so you can be 20 again)?
I can see that some religious people might have trouble with the concept (e.g., they may not believe a soul can be transferred).
Some people may feel "tired" of living after a hundred years, so would just let their body wear out until it finally gives in and be done with it.
Others may not like the idea of a copy of themself existing at the same time they (the original) do. Maybe they'd like the original to be destroyed when the copy is made.
Maybe the risk would be thought of as too great (e.g., what if there is a defect in the "copy" that leads to an early death or mental inability to learn very new things).
I'm sure others can think of more ideas one would not want to go through with a mind transplant.

I am pretty sure that science fiction and science fantasy have dealt with many of the possibilities.
And since it isn't happening in the real world for a very long time the best alternative would be to go read some of those stories.
