Good thing with some addons you can fix that.

More precisely, you can work around some of the more glaring issues, but even after applying the "fixes", it's still crap as far as eye candy goes.

Last Friday evening I came across this whiskey which really impressed my palate. It was a smooth well rounded whiskey with a hint of sherry in it. I had the bartender write me down the name as I feared I might forget it after such a long "hard working" night.
So today I went to my favorite whiskey source in Erlangen to see if they had it in store.
They did so I now have bottle of Auchentoshan "Three Wood" at home and to balance out all that well rounded mildness I also opted to take some Bowmore "Darkest" 15YO along with it carrying a distinctive, yet not too strong peaty note.
Are any of you also into whiskey tasting?
I'm always open to recommendations, especially Scittish Single Malts.
Here are some I've had so far:
Highland Park 15, 18 YO
Talisker 10, 18 YO
Ardbeg
Laphroaig 10YO
Cheers!

Ahem - it's whisky, not whiskey. You've just listed Scottish brands.

Excuse the typo. As for the scottish brands, that's what I mostly consume. I'll have to compose a more complete list, but not today! ... hick ...

Is there another sort? Oh yes, Irish.
If your neighbours don't listen to The Ramones, turn it up real loud so they can.

Then there is Thai whiskey too!

You can also get Welsh whisky[^] - I bought my dad a bottle for his last birthday and he enjoyed it

I always like Kessler because it's smooth and used to be cheap, then I moved on to Makers Mark on the high end.

Maker's Mark I know they are different one is bourbon and the other is Canadian but my personal choice is Crown Royal. It goes down smooth and has a buttery taste

Yeah Crown is very good but can't see paying the price the bar charges for it.

I totally agree thats why I mostly enjoy it at home in bars i become a cheap guy and go for beers instead.

Ditto except I stopped drinking about 4 years ago. I haven't completely stopped but I do 18 beers a year as opposed to 18 a night.

That sounds like a vast improvement. Nice to see you have it under control. I believe that it takes a lot of will power to do that.
Best,

Quitting drinking wasn't half as bad as quitting smoking, that was tougher.

I feel with you. I quit smoking so many times I've stopped counting, but I've yet to reach that goal of quitting for real. I wonder if one can quit smoking cigarettes, but still enjoy an occasional cigar without giving in to that obnoxious habit. I do love my cigars, but I'd like to quit with my cigarette habit. Not sure if I can walk that line though.
Any thoughts or recommendations you can share on this topic?
Regards,
Manfred

You have to want to do it and in my case I used the patch which I think helped a lot.
I get out of breath doing easy things so I figured it was time to quit.
I started hiking, biking, camping and kayaking on a regular basis and am told it will help restore some lung capacity.
All I can tell you is that once you quit you will feel a lot better.

When does that start? It's been thirteen days, and all I feel is a strong desire to buy a pack of cigarettes.
Of course, I've been hiking, camping, kayaking and earning belts in karate while smoking, and never experienced any ill effects. A month ago, in fact, I was tromping through the mountains showing some granola-nibbling environmentalist-types where I planned to build roads to rebuild a power line, and I jokingly told one young girl that I'd picked a heck of a time to think about quitting smoking, since I'd be up and down these mountains daily for several months. Her response was, "You smoke? I would have never guessed that!"
The hardest times are surprising to me. I had expected to be tempted during my morning coffee, and after meals. But spending a few hours in a casino, gambling and drinking, really brings on the cravings! Watering the yard is another such time; it used to be so relaxing to light a ciggy, turn on the hose, and leisurely water the trees and flowers... Now it's 'hurry up and get this crap done'. I'm not certain that it's worth the trade.
Thank Bog for the electric titties - without that and the patch, I'd have lasted about twenty minutes.

I imagine it's different for everyone but it took me about 6 weeks as I remember. I still get urges to smoke especially if I drink a beer and sometimes after a big meal.

Yeah patches really helped me too, but never did the electronic thingy.

Thanks for the reply! I've heard of of Makers Mark before and evev see it in the supermarket where I live. It's a bourbon, right? If you think it's any good I'll give it a try.
Cheers!

When I drink bourbon, it's what I drink. I'm currently on scotch - I drink Chivas as my daily drink.
