Strangely, as a White, Straight Male, I have been discriminated against.
But then that is the communists for you.

He's unwilling to recognise sexism as a problem because he's never experienced discrimination himself. And unsurprisingly he does so in a very sexist way.

What do you know of my life and experiences?
What justification do you have for stating as fact that of which you know nothing?
Also, I made no sexist remarks, only facts.
Facts are absolute, there is no -isms with facts.
Incidentally, why is Sexism a problem?
Do you not hold doors open for women?
Are you fighting for equality in all things and demanding birthing suites for men at your local hospital?
Or are you clever enough to realise that there are physiological, psychological, morphological, chemical and cultural differences between men and women, and thus equality is impossible?
Grow up a little and live in the real world.
I have had several women bosses, some good, some not so good, but their sex was not what made them good or not, it was their ability and skills.
They got the jobs by work, not political quota systems.
Hypocrisy and Cant relating to perceived injustices that don't exist is what annoys me.

That doesn't mean that you're not right, nor does it mean that I disagree with you, but that particular sentiment is so lame and useless and invalid that you just instantly lost.

Bloody Nazis!
It is just what Hitler would have said!
It is the Fourth Reich all over again!
There, that should lose the argument completely.

Not much, but I've observed enough of your personality and behaviour.
Dalek Dave wrote:

There was a woman in a high-ranking position, and you immediately assumed that because she was ineffectual at it she got there because she's a woman. Sure, there might be quota systems, I couldn't say for sure, but men get into positions they're incompetent for all the time and I doubt you routinely blame their penises for it.
Dalek Dave wrote:

Interesting position.
Dalek Dave wrote:

Not any more than I do for men, and it could be argued that I don't do it enough for either.

You have a marked lack of understanding of the issue.

Nonsense. Especially in the domain in which this discussion exists.
Humans do not exist in a world that is absolutely black and white in all aspects.
Rather everything is always is a shade of grey in the domain of anything dealing with human interactions the shade is almost always right in the middle.

I don't know much about UK politics.
But shouldn't you expect someone at that level to be aware of their own shortcomings and say "no thanks" when they get offered such a position?

Don't politicians have any awareness of their own shortcomings surgically removed?

I guess it's even a precondition.

Obviously.

And this proves you don't.
We'd have nobody in government if this was the case. It used to be that politics in the UK was taken on by people who'd actually had some experience running businesses, being in the services and the like. Now it's the preserve of a "professional political class" all of whom have tended to follow a similar path through University and so-called careers.
Yes, there is a move towards positive discrimination, but it was DDs implication that this was the only reason she got the job that I find offensive towards women. It's an old fashioned, chauvinistic attitude. I've refrained from the voting wars that are going on with this thread, but it's clear from the gray shadings and counter voting that this is a polarising issue. Had DDs argument been that she was promoted to a post that she wasn't capable of, then I wouldn't have argued - it's fairly apparent that this is the case, but that wasn't his argument.

I guess it's not very different to Sweden after all then.
There has been a lot of political fighting about positive discrimination here too. But this will probably not happen as there are actually more female than male managers in Sweden, predominantly in lower government position and healthcare, while higher positions and in private businesses managers are predominantly male.
So it would be a pretty tough thing to get that done legally so that positive discrimination won't actually affect women negatively.
And a professional political class we have here to. We even call it the political nobility as the children of the politicos tend to follow in their parents tracks.

Aren't you the guy who tried to get into local politics recently, pot, kettle hmmmm.
As you failed to do so that makes you a failed politician (as opposed to a corrupt pollie), now there's a field for abuse/flame/sarcasm.
Give it up Dave, you are expecting logic and moral behaviour from a pollie/Govt, won't happen.
Never underestimate the power of human stupidity

As for being a failed politico, yes, but a corrupt one, no, I didn't manage to get that far!
