Hello all,
My new laptop came with a hardware capable encryption HDD which is nice (now if anyone steals the laptop won't have access to the data inside).
But, it was 256GB so I bought an external HDD.
That external HDD won't have crucial data, but sometimes it can contain it, but it is not hardware encryption capable.
Is there any encryption software that would be free, work flawlessly and under windows 7 professional?

When people steal stuff like that, they have a quick look to see if there are any naked selfies, then they wipe the devices (to delete any tracker software) and either use them or sell them.
Unless you're James Bond or a ter'r'rist, I shouldn't worry too much about encryption.
Hmm.
Could a "Come and get me!" tracker be hidden in a naked-selfie image? That would be a sensible security measure.

I think my naked pictures would be a detterrent factor itself...
Of course this is not the reason I would like to encrypt the files in my HDDs...

TrueCrypt is free and have some nice features that may interest you.
I use it to store this 1 Gb Excel file containing all informations on my countless bank accounts in Switzerland.

Wasn't TrueCrypt discontinued, with a message in the last version saying it was unsafe?
Mind you, if you only want to encrypt files, most file compressors (winzip/winrar/peazip/etc) will do that for you.

I remember an announce telling the discontinuation; but the reason wasn't the unsafety, as far as I remember, but rather the fact that new tools arrising with modern OSs like Windows 10, based on BitLocker, made it unnecessary. Discontinuation kind of followed Windows XP's end of support. The fact that it is discontinued means that there are no more security fixes. But that does not mean it is intrinsequally unsafe.
If OP is working in a high sensitive industry, or for a government agency, then this tool obviously isn't an option. But it may be one if his goal is just to protect its personal data from quick stealing.

Download the last version of TrueCrypt.

The one I'm using (version 7.1a) does not throw this warning. But I admit I downloaded it quite some time ago.

I shouldn't bother "upgrading" from that version; all that changed was that the messagebox was added.
I was quite upset by its "demise", even though I had it installed and did absolutely nothing with it -- I've heard more horror stories about people losing access to encrypted data than I have about people losing their really important e-mails to granny to hackers.

How about Microsoft's BitLocker? IIRC, it is part of Windows 7 Professional.

I was just thinking if anyone has analysed which keyboard key is used most while using Visaul Studio.
Some of the candidates (IMO) are: "F5", "." (dot), "Tab", "Enter", "Space"
I would like to exclude "Ctrl", "Shift" and "Alt" for obvious reasons (They mostly need to be pressed in combination of other keys).
It would be fun to write a visual studio extension which can give me the stats about keyboard hits. 
I am not sure if it already exists.

I constantly hit CTRL+SHIFT+S to save all files in case VS crashes.
The difficult we do right away...
...the impossible takes slightly longer.
