and only a "dash" of tonic water. Also quite vague. Furthermore, it's optional, so leaving it out would make it a gin cake only...

How effective do you think it would be if that became the norm? Would prospective terrorists dress like:
0) Target groups that fit the profile because they might actually be in that group
Or
1) Respectable, "normal" people who don't.

If the normal checks are sufficient to catch them then the profiling is redundant. If the normal checks are not sufficient then the bad guys get through them so your point is invalid.
