Sure, many are overblown, but there are some really good features there. I saw the demos this summer with multi-displays, Finder & Safari improvements - all impressive improvements. In many ways I prefer the latest Mac OS UI to the stagnating & de-emphasized Windows desktop. Wish Microsoft would give the Windows desktop similar attention.

My original post was tongue-in-check, but I am disappointed that MacOS seems to be years behind other OSs. Multiscreen support, for instance, really shouldn't be something to crow about. Not in 2013.
Regardless, I still love my Macs and my iPads, but I also still love my Ultrabooks and my servers.

Huh? It didn't have multi-screen support before?
The Mac II (or some version way back then) had that. Did it get lost along the way?

Multi-screen support has been there for ever - what they stuffed up was when they added "full screen" applications - thee take over the whole screen 9as te name suggests) BUT they only took over one screen in a multi-screen set up- disabling all the other screens!. now you can have full screen apps on each of your multiple screens.

Was the same some years back when they announced the copy/paste on iPhone 
One thing Windows could actually have natively is the multi-desktop and the independent toolbars but anyway, the multi-desktop can be achieved with many free and payed softwares and I use DisplayFusion for years now to properly manage the toolbars across my monitors.
So... yet again... +200 shiny new things?
I mean, I'm no Apple hater, and I currently use whatever lands in front of me, but we need to admit that one thing Apple always got better that anyone else was marketing!

They went back to the drawing board. And after their talented team worked really hard, they have revolutionize the whole naming convention system. And now it is no longer named after a member of a Cat Family. Now they are after awesome "surfing" locations.
Which is the only reason I use my costly apple computer for. And they kept the promise of, not to change that. I say it's worth every penny. 
OK, now the serious question, did you see any noticeable change in battery life? they have added some new algorithms to improve battery life. Since my older Macbook Air doesn't have Haswell chip, I am going to upgrade it just to get extra battery life.

Yeah, if you want to completely change the look and feel of Windows, also changing the way programs open from full-screen to normal, you just right-click on the taskbar...
They should have just put a 5mm2 "charm", 41% of the distance between the centre and the edge of the screen, 23 degrees from vertical.
That would have fit much better with the current Windows UX philosophy.

I'm not using 8 let alone 8.1. I was just being my usual flippant self.
Have had to sort out issues on 2 clients laptops that were using Windows 8. Cludged my was through and hope they don't call again.

Really slow by todays standards, very small memory today also. Then I read the article, it says 576kb. That's 72KB, eight times smaller number because the measured size (KB) is 8 times bigger than kb or Kb. (b is for bits, B is for Bytes, I think k and K both mean 2 to the 10th power.)
So, who made the typo?

Don't assume 8-bit bytes either.

I still fondly remember the CDC computer with its 60 bit (10 character) word size who put to shame IBM's accuracy. IBM's double was quite a bit less accurate than CDC's float. You had to do something special to support mixed case letters, which reduced the size to 5 characters per word. (You had to dedicate one character to indicate the next letter was lower case.)

That would be just under 19Kb which jibes with the article. CDC NEVER used decimal digits except when printing or converting to text. It would take a lot of additional processing to maintain digital numbering while also doing mathematical operations. You could almost (one short) store a 10 billion number in its word. A 48 bit signed integer could hold a number value of 280 trillion. A 60 bit integer could hold a number over 4 million times bigger than that.
