What do you think?? Where is the best place to move from there?

I've been working my way through the Ruby courses. I'm most of the way done, but I don't really have any sort of project in mind to work on when I'm done.
I just thought it would be refreshing to learn something new, regardless of whether or not I need/want that something.

I'll check it out. I've learned Ruby and Ruby on Rails through a trial by fire process, taking two existing websites and upgrading them from Rails 2 to Rails 3. I'm pretty comfortable with most things now, but I know there's a lot of little things I don't know.

It's mostly basic stuff, but it could teach you how to do some things in different ways, since Ruby is so loose with its syntax.

$coworker is interested in "getting in to programming." He's a smart IT guy who is leaning towards python (a good first language choice by any estimation.) I pointed him to it. Should be interesting.
I'll definitely work through some of that stuff as well, but after 35 years of doing this nonsense I imagine I'll be less than objective.

I've played with it, it's a nice site. It gives a good basic intro.
The API courses are kind of interesting though. I'd recommend playing around in that garden for a while. The basics are VERY basic, but the API courses are pretty decent overall.

It's a good place to start from scratch, I've done my ruby ABC there. Now, I'm enjoying more challenges with www.codewars.com[^]. You practice and learn by training, it covers from novice to hacker, it's new, it's community driven and it's free.

Hoping in a few weeks my Raspberry Pi project (PiLab) won't know what hit it.

I'm not familiar with Codecademy's offerings as I have not been working in the languages they teach.
As for where to go next, coursera.org[^] offers many classes covering a wide range of languages and concepts. I'm also in the middle of two courses (self-paced) from https://www.udacity.com/[^].

Sorry, this won't mean much to anyone outside the UK.
Above my head in the office is a TV showing the news. I can't hear it, but I can see it is following the three Police chiefs who have been summoned to explain their actions over the 'plebgate' affair to a panel of MPs.
Where did this thing come from? I thought that unless you broke the law in this country you didn't have to account for your actions to anyone. Whilst I can understand public servants being called like today, and Chris Patten for the BBC previously (as this is ultimately reporting to your superiors), Murdoch has also been summoned and he doesn't even live here.
It's like being called to the headmaster's office and having the whole thing televised. I don't care for it, even though the three today do have some explaining to do.

Trouble is, on the one hand you have the Metropolitan Police, who almost nobody trusts to tell the truth, and who famously cover up for each other.
But...on the other hand you have a politician.
So my guess is they are all lying.
Why is it public? Because there is a general election in a year or so, and the government wants to be free of the stink of elitism in time to tell us they are just like normal people...
The only instant messaging I do involves my middle finger.
English doesn't borrow from other languages.
English follows other languages down dark alleys, knocks them over and goes through their pockets for loose grammar.
