My laptop fell off the table and the screen cracked. It still works, so I am still using it. I just disabled the touchscreen feature (not sure why a laptop needs it).

These make perfect home servers. I have such a laptop running Exchange at home handling all the family's email accounts. A bit underpowered for a server maybe, but they're quiet, small and even have a built in UPS in the event of a power cut.
And I just remote onto it when needed, because the screen is proper trashed.

I was soo close to setting mine up as a home server, but got distracted by having to complete paying dev work on it, using a standalone monitor. Then I eventually ended up giving it to a local barman when I bought a new one.

Depending on how new it is there are companys out there that sell new screens, but most people don't want to pay what it would cost for a new one.
Other option is to hook it up to a external monitor if it is broken bad enough.

I've become the family 'laptop screen replacement expert'...
It's usually a fairly simple job, hardest bit is finding the correct replacement screen.
But in this case I think he's cracked the touchscreen digitizer glass, not the screen itself.
Not had to deal with one of them, yet.

Most of the cracking is in the top left corner (and only goes about .25 inch onto the actual screen area. There are a few longer cracks, but they aren't really visible at most angles I view at, so it is fine. The cracks are barely visible anyways.
This happened when I was working on an assignment with my dad (as he knew what to do) and he decided that I wasn't working fast enough, and SCREAMED 'WORK FASTER' right in my ear, scaring me and causing me to jump up. The computer was just hanging over the edge of the table, and flipped right off. My mom was pissed, and ordered him to get it fixed. He replied 'Do it yourself, [EXTREME EXPLICITIVES DELETED]!'
