How about "Cliff Diving" by Hugo First? Have you read that one?
And then there's "Falling off the Ladder" by Eileen Dover.

So I needed a new wireless mouse and bought a Lenovo from NewEgg. I figured they're a big company (Lenovo) with a reputation to uphold.
So, it arrives and I didn't put it to immediate use - but when I did I found two annoying things. One was how long it took to get a driver* (needed to download by Win7). OK - after quite a few minutes the driver was found and loaded. Turn on mouse: red led flickers on, then off. Motion sensitive? No, the damn piece of junk had, as usual, had not the least bit of QC. The on/off switch is the problem.
Even before opening it (a single screw) I observed the poor solder joint to one of the battery contacts (+). Considering what it costs, return shipping to replace with even more junk, I will eat this burn and have a very long memory of it (and will not, as with this email, hesitate to share my experience as a warning to others.
* This is my "dirty" PC - so if the driver's Chinese spyware they get nothing as I log into nothing on it.

Everything is Chinese junk today. Everything.
No company has a reputation to uphold they are all just trying not to perish first in the face of a dying market and wildly stiff competition to stay afloat. This problem extends beyond the lowly mouse all the way up to the automobile and household appliances.
Coders alone will not prop up the pc marketplace and make obsolete notion of quality come back. It's gone.
Mobile devices (more Chinese junk) have the day.

"A big company with a reputation to uphold" and China ... Meaningful thought breaks down at this point.

I have been using MS Money for personal accounting for longer than I can remember, and I was quite sad when MS stopped it as a product.
What would have been really, really great, is that they would put the legacy code in open source so that old farts like me could go on with the updates. I wonder whether it is worth asking for it.

Was the same.
Check out KMyMoney[^].
Very similar and will easily port MS Money database.

I second that. I also moved to it from MS Money.

Which export format from MS Money? I have QIF and QIF Strict as my options?
|
|
|
|
|
I'm not sure. I'd try both or google what's different about them.

Can KMyMoney download from banks?

You can import transactions. It allows QIF, GnuCash, OFX and CSV formats. And something called "AqBanking importer" and "Account template" which I've never used and don't know what they are.
I'm pretty sure that I converted the MS Money database, but I don't remember how I did this (it was years ago).

Not only have they stopped supporting it, the MS Money Sunset Edition appears to have been removed from their servers.
It's a good thing that I'm a packrat - I salted away a copy of the installation program many moons ago...

Indeed. I could not install this edition anyway because it only supports US language and money, so had to stop in 2015.
|

Well, you could have exported everything to QIC format and then re-imported it to the newer version. A bit late, now...

What I meant is that the latest version apparently does not support other currency than $$ and is only available in English.

Well, I use it with US Dollars and Israeli Shekels. I have to manually set the conversion rates, but everything appears to work OK for me.
