I've had everything that could happen to a laptop happen to my laptop, including getting it stolen out of my home WHILE I WAS SLEEPING (made me want to get a dog)
That's why I don't buy them anymore, but then I'm not in your shoes.

I wouldn't use a laptop if it was for personal use. But I need to be able to lug it around. And work from both home or office.

Yeah, those were my work laptops all that ugly happened to.
I stopped using them for work because of the liability of them.
And I stopped using them at home because on principle I don't like to spend more than I want to lose on the thing, and I don't like the idea of setting even just $500 USD on a public coffee shop table. A laptop is that, but shinier.
So, it's just not for me. That and I eventually break the screen hinges from lugging it around (though in recent years laptops have gotten better in that regard)

it doesn't seem that different at first glance (except the taskbar is locked at the bottom now :/ )
But I trust it extract even more performance from the hardware...
Although I heard bug report to the contrary, it was marked as urgent bug...

Thanks for reminding me why I haven't switched yet.

only in some case with some hardware... I think, I forgot the name, but those SSD that look like a memory chip, are supposed to be slower. Got one on as my main drive though, not noticing anything (not that I am taxing the system anyway)
(by supposed to be, I mean it's a bug, of course)

Yeah, I run NVMe. If they slowed that down they can take a running jump. I'll wait for them to fix it as I tear the crap out of that drive.

I spotted a huuuuuuuUUUUUUUuuuuge problem with Windows 11.
All the windows have a new rounded corner. But my pet project app (using custom Window chrome from MahApps.Metro) still has a square border!
mm... I can probably get rid of MahApps.... It has a nice title bar though... (that and some minor restyling is all I use, and I mean minor)

Your app might need some kind of manifest.

Is there any test to determine whether my laptop hardware is capable of supporting Windows 11?

Check you windows update panel, it tells you or there is a link to something that tells you.
it might look like your system can't upgrade, but the windows update report tool might tool you are missing PTM2.0 or something, but, on most recent system, it's just a matter of truning them on in the bios.
Windows update will still say you can't upgrade (while the checker tool say you can) in which which case, just wait a few days, Windows update will eventually catch up

Too late, Windows 11 caught me... aarrggll... tell my children I love them...

Your children want to know where you keep the keys to the house and the combination to the safe.
Not fatal. Been running it and VS 2022 in a VM. Slower than 10 but that will go away. Like any interface changes, I want to puke at them at first site but I can get used to almost anything. Wow, love the shiny new icons!
Also running the developer eval in a VM and it is OK.
My base is Linux but I am not a zealot, just a preference. SSD's are so cheap, I don't understand why folks don't trial that way.

If you can keep your head while those about you are losing theirs, perhaps you don't understand the situation.

Now that you say it.. I have Windows Sandbox running Windows 11 inside my new Windows 11! Windowsception!
(Could I run Windows Sandbox in Windows Sandbox?)
And .. I am still alive! Just like you predicted!

Doubling battery life? What (sorcery) tablet is this?

Lenovo yoga
When I was using as my note table during our weekly D&D & CoC afternoon, it ended up with like 20% left after 8 hours.
On Windows 11 it ends up at 65%. Yeah!

I think my battery life would also reach miraculous levels with W11. Simply because I would not use it very much.
After recently installing Linux, Windows is almost completely retired now and only used once in a while for games.
I have lived with several Zen masters - all of them were cats.
His last invention was an evil Lasagna. It didn't kill anyone, and it actually tasted pretty good.

I have always been interested in history - all history - be it the Chinese dynasties or European histories. Recently my eldest daughter decided we need to watch "The Last Kingdom" on Netflix. But we did not have a Netflix account. So she bought us a year's subscription on the understanding that we will watch "The Last Kingdom".
What a great show! We just finished season 1 and now we know about Alfred the Great, the king of Wessex. And we know where Wessex was. We know about the battles against the Danes (Vikings).
Something I am still curious about is the Saxon invasion of England. Did the German Saxons really invade England? Did they drive the Welsh into Wales as the patriotic songs from lower Saxony in Germany seem to suggest? I wonder!
Get me coffee and no one gets hurt!

Most modern historians do not believe it was an invasion, per se, but rather a surge of armed settlers spread over considerable time, who were eventually assimilated into the resident population.
