I went for that wrong word first as well!

Since most of the usual persons have responded here, maybe I can post a spoiler.
Long back, when I was a student, there was a prescribed book on Complex Variables, by Ruel Churchill. There was a library copy which we referred to. Some frustrated student had written a C before Ruel, so that it was Cruel Churchill. This is what I remembered today morning while solving Wordle today.

I'd say it depends on which dialect of german you referring to :P

This is always the hardest part for me, when a pet starts having health problems. We thought we might lose our cat last week over a chronic condition he has. He's on steroids daily because of it as it is, he had a flare up of his condition, which is a digestive inflammation thing and stopped eating, lost a ton of weight.
The condition eventually develops into lymphoma. It's pretty much a given, just a matter of time. He's 11, so he's probably going to die young, and the process is over time so there's some amount of suffering involved even now that he just has to live with. Luckily it's periodic and doesn't seem constant. In any case, I hate having to make the final decision to put a pet down, though sometimes I wish humans were afforded the same dignity. I try to let the pet decide when it's time, but I always second guess myself.
I'm not sure if it's harder on me than the actual death of a pet. Especially never being sure if we did the right thing at the right time.
To err is human. Fortune favors the monsters.

Very sorry to hear about your family member. I had to make that decision last March for our pup, she was just shy of 13. One of, if not the hardest decision I've ever made. I feel for you, your hubby, and of course your cat.

I had the same problem with one of my cats. It developed when he was older and didn't take long before reaching lymphoma stage. Steroids helped for a short while but than it was just downhill. In the end I had to take him to the vet to put him down and held him while the vet gave the injection. It wasn't easy but I felt I owed him that much after he gave me 16 years of joy. In afterthought, I should have taken him to the vet earlier but I just couldn't bring myself to do it.

truth. It gets worse when most of the cats are associated with children. Even when the child is older / grown adult, it's still hard.
I have a 16+ yo cat wandering around the house - deaf, blind, but it hasn't started missing the litter box. I've made it clear when that happens....
I have one of the few rough coat sable collies in the area (think Lassie). This is my wife's dog. He's about 11 now and starting to show signs of hip dysplasia. He'll be a hard one.
