Movie Quote Of The Day
You may go if you wish. But remember this: walk away now and you walk away from your crafts, your skills, your vocations; leaving the next generation with nothing but recycled, digitally-sampled techno-grooves, quasi-synth rhythms, pseudo-songs of violence-laden gangsta-rap, acid pop, and simpering, saccharine, soulless slush.
Which movie?

As it looks like the boss's friend the berry is not long for this world, which format is likely to replace it in the business world?

It looks like that *now*? I thought it happened a few years ago, and the topic since has been discussed to death.
iPhone, android, and windows phone are the major players.

but which one? android? disliked as its too "open source" , apple as its Apple and Windows as its not got much market share?
from what I have read the Windows phone seems to come out best fit for "business" rather than personnel use

The way I see it, there's no "one spot" right now. Unfortunately, blackberry was the only "smart phone" back then, and nearly everyone who needed one such thing had to buy it.
It's different today as you could get all kinds of smartphones (there's one with a 38MP camera being discussed about in a thread below).
It's safe to say that all these phones together have put the berry to sleep.

"Too Apple"?? Really, do you dismiss a technical solution because you don't LIKE THE NAME of the company?
How much market-share does Windows have on the phone, and how much does it need to be before it's considered?

as if the people in charge of spending thousands of quids will pop round to carphone wearhouse!
if you want secure business comunication do realy want every script jockey in the world full access to your OS code?
I didn't dismiss then on the name however the OS is more based to personel use and from I overhear from the techies are a nightmare in a business enviroment and apple support is as about as usefull as a windows help file, but they can help choosing which shoes go with your new playschool Iphone
Market share is always a consideration when Companies buy goods, do you think IBM is going to buy a cheap chinese android phone for its workforce even if it does everthing all the rest does?

YES!!!
Do you consider Windows to be more "secure" than Linux? The proprietary closed source software, compared to the source that anyone can verify? Peer reviewed by the world - you consider that "insecure"??
Explain me how any OS code that I cannot verify tends to be "more secure"?

No, they usually ask "what's hot", without looking at specs. It's not as if the price matters.
so your company buys equipment basted on whats "hot" you must work in marketing, all the companies I have worked for always looked at spec and price before how trendy it was
Quote: Do you consider Windows to be more "secure" than Linux? The proprietary closed source software, compared to the source that anyone can verify? Peer reviewed by the world - you consider that "insecure"??

just how business frendly was Linux when windows came out? do you think for a second that if you released windows into the market today without its history it would have a bad rep for security? and on the otherside of the same coin do you think if linux was the legacy desktop software it would not have been targeted by the hackers as window has?
if you publish the code it does tend to make it a lot easier to find those little paths though the security and if all business software used it it would become the target for all those script jockies, look at apple, always boasting it didnt have viruses but what happens when it get big market shar? suddenly they start appearing
an OS you cannot varify? you have inspected all the code in linux? I am impressed, while you where there there as a few hundred bugs that need fixing
Quote: Apple targets the consumer. Fortunately, employees in a company can be seen as consumers.
Apple target trendies not business users (unless your business is marketing or graphic design etc) if Apple were that good then windows wouldnt have the majority of business users, you ask the average network guy about running macs on a business network and stand back for fireworks
you condem windows why how do you explain that it still outsells Mac?
Quote: I overhear from the techies are a nightmare in a business enviroment
Compared to which competitor?
BB obviously, however both Windows AND Android are better regarded at least by our support guys
Quote: How did it work out for you to pick a blackberry based on marketshare? ..and how much market-share did IE have in the Netscape-days?
for business BB had (and I still has IIRC) the biggest Buisness market share, and IE had market penitration as it was already on your machine and IT dept tending to make sure everything worked with it rather than testing any other browser, netscape should have done what firefox did and force MS to stop bundling IE with the OS or least give the option of choice
the bottom line is that most employees do not get a choice it is a corporate decision on these and most other technical choices, and in most sizable companies it is a big chunk of cash that needs spending, in todays market that amount of cash is going to need some serious business case presenting and "its hot at the moment" is unlikely to cut it
