[Heavy sarcasm] Gotta love the forcibly full screen "apps" and the beautiful metro tiles. [/Heavy sarcasm]

MSDN?
The 8.1 update didn't show up in the Windows Store for me either. I had to download it from MSDN Subscriber Downloads. I downloaded 3.5 GB in about 20 minutes, so I cannot complain.

I just went to Microsoft.com and they had a big banner.
I installed it on one of my test machines. The install mostly went fine until it got to the interactive setup; instead of simply using the features and user account already there, it gave me some rather confusing options. Once installed, I didn't notice any difference (I'm used to the start screen and don't care about having a pseudo start button and I don't understand how lazy people can be when wanting to boot to the desktop--you really can't just click on the massive desktop tile or press the Windows key?)

According to Microsoft's Store, they'll ship the 4GB/64GB model by 10/22, the 4GB/128GB by 10/25, and the 2 versions with 8GB will ship by 12/15
So..do you interpret this as a sign of great demand, of manufacturing problems, or something else entirely?
Meantime, Best Buy is showing the Haswell version of the Lenovo Yoga with 8GB and a 256GB SSD for $1,199 online. Unfortunately, it's "not available online" and no store within a couple of hundred miles has it, so...
What's taking manufacturers so long to get their Haswell-based products into wide availability?

Creating artificial demand.
Hoping any buyers of the lesser systems will find any problems before they start selling the pricey ones.
When my wife and I were at the Microsoft Store she liked the Surface, so one will likely replace her Vista laptop -- and there'll be much rejoicing.

Remember, they have to go back to the landfill site and look for them, dig them up, and see if they can fool enough people into buying one.

No.
More like "I voted someone up because of, let´s say, an admirable blindfolded statement"...

As I recall, we lost that along with our collective sense of humor.

But I don't reply out of spite or to be vindictive.

I don't know the price of the surface or v2 model but my guess is releasing the v2 whilst v1 stocks are high would mean a price cut of the v1 model to make it more appealing to purchase.

They have not clue how the tablet/smartphone business is run.
At the time you make an announcement, you set a real known release date with pre-ordering available at the date of the announcement.
