I got off at Gateshead once, pretty dangerous game to play that.

I went to a chip shop in Gateshead many years ago. Lad I was with asked for a battered sausage. Serving woman (think it was a woman) looked at him and said "bastard sausage?". When telling the locals this story back in the office they suggested his response should have been "Aye, and some f***ing chips.".
Another time in the same chip shop I asked for sausage and chips to be told it would be a few minutes as there were no sausages battered. I said it was ok as I didn't want batter. This was met with "No batter! I won't charge you for the sausage then.".
Strange place Gateshead.

Wow. How heartless and incompassionate.

Wow, I cannot believe that some of the most beautiful classical music pieces were not on that play list. Pathetic, IMO.

It still surprises me how many people have no interest whatsoever in classical music - maybe I am a snob, however I do appreciate both J.S.Bach(off to hear the St. Matthew Passion at Kings College Chapel in a few days) and Metallica so I think that's unlikely.

Indeed, Metallica wrote their music as composers.

Does the US not have laws against using your mobile phone when you're driving?

Everything's legal as long as you don't get caught.
You'll never get very far if all you do is follow instructions.

Yes, of course, but for making calls and texting, not for recording video/audio or using the GPS-based navigation aids.

That seems odd - I'd imagine that recording a video of another driver is at least as distracting as talking to someone.

In some locations, "driving while distracted" is enough to get the citation.

Here in Florida they are TRYING to pass a law prohibiting texting and driving. But everyone here drives with one hand on the wheel and the other on their ear.

Exactly!
Here in AZ, the left lane is designated the "Passing" lane; if you're not passing, you are required to stay out of it, or at least move over when someone wants to pass. I've never seen anyone enforce it, but that's the law. It also happens to be common courtesy and respect for other drivers, good manners, decency and the American Way, all of which are nearly extinct.

What about passing cars on the right? In (most?) European countries, it's about the most illegal thing you can do - I never really understood why, but then again, I got my license here in the states many, many moons ago.

I can't see it here at work but if it is the same video I saw yesterday then it looks as if the recording driver, was actively blocking the left lane (for long enough to get out a camera) and accelerated to block the truck to pass. Also, the truck wasn't tailgating in the video (if this is the same one)
|
|
|
|
|
Sounds like the same video. I was thinking that too -- I don't consider it tailgating if I can still see the headlights of the guy behind me! Yeah, they might be too close, but I've experienced *real* tailgaters. This didn't qualify.
