When there is a bird or cat in our back garden the dog starts going nuts at the back door to be let out to get it.
A couple of weeks ago he was released, went charging down the garden after a cat that hopped up the fence out of his way.
When he hit the fence head first his head went straight through the panel and he stood there, head outside our garden, looking left and right trying to work out where the cat had gone.

We had a cat, called Piffle, she was the blond of cats, long grey hair and as stupid as they come. She only ever once actually caught a bird, she was asleep on a tree branch and the poor bloody thing landed on her.
We had mice eating the dog nuts, so fat they could hardly walk, she tripped over one and had no idea what to do with it!

Once there he starts making a noise like "Woooooooooow!" then he goes back to the wood where he finds comfortable...

My cat used to love those pull tabs - I used to get them on orange juice cartons. She also used to love playing with crumpled bits of paper[^] - she could chase a bit of paper around for hours!

I had a cat that would play fetch with one of those whiffle balls with the rattle in the center. He was a goofy cat but I loved him a lot and miss him terribly.

I just think it is as the subject says!
And to think that the search started by trying to find the music from a Persil Washing Powder Advert!

I did some sky diving when I was a kid and thought it was amazing, the flying suits just leave me speechless, pity I'm too old and fat to do try

You're never too old to try sky-diving.
You may be too old and fat to try it twice.

There is a vast difference between sky diving and falling sky.
I hate to imagine the size and shape of a flying suit capable of giving me a 3:1 flight ratio

Sky Diving is one of the only things in existence that has a 100% success rate! No one ever complained that their parachute did not work...

This is one thing I want to do. I guess after cliff jumping, bungee jumping and sky diving, this is the next step. Then, I want my jet pack that can work at escape velocity.

I use to love falling asleep to Enigma, have their "MCMXC" and "The Cross Of Changes" albums, especially after a few (or quite a few) beers. Use to get some really weird dreams...

My brother turned me on to them during my trip and I really like them. Shadows in Silence is one of my favorites.

No. No AI bot should ever have the ability to judge the value life. How can it? It has no concept of it. To think people actually have to ask this question.

So, given that the bot is able to predict the outcome of the accident and knowing that only 2 rather than, say, 6 people will die it should not take that choice?

It is because it is acting without emotion that it can make this decision. It is you humans who are incapable of doing that.

You cannot make a judgment call on that like it's a simple logical algorithm in a program. What if the person to die was your daughter, who's also pregnant, and her husband? And the people living were 6 old people that were murderers and on their way to kill more people? Oh sure, then we could have the cars cop a feel for pregnant chicks every time you start the car and require old people to sign a waver to kiss their arse good bye. But where does it stop, just how far down the "lets not have to think for ourselves" rabbit hole does one have to go? Just because technology says we can.
mark merrens wrote: It is because it is acting without emotion that it can make this decision. It is you humans who are incapable of doing that.
Har har. Seriously though, emotion is what makes life worth living. It's what makes being human fun. Oh wait that's an emotion. I just want to be happy. Oh wait... damn emotions getting in the way.
Einstein was right if this question even has to be asked.

I think that's exactly what you can do. The bot will not make judgments about the people only about the outcome.
In any case, if all cars were guided by bots this is unlikely to happen other than by freak, unpredictable accident.

Yeah totally. Let's give robots the power of God. That shouldn't cause any problems.

It's not the power of god, it's the power of reason and making logical judgments based on probability.
