Yeah, he'd have got a lot further in a Smart Diesel.
But not as far as a sequel though...

I didn't have the sticker but driving 55 seemed like slow mo when out on the highway, just couldn't do it. Used to like the speed limit in the dessert when I was young, "Whatever is safe and prudent"! Liked to take my 67 Charger R/T out now and then and blow out the carbs.

Oooohhhh, ford 427! Lecker. Whats it going to run, 500+ bhp?
I saw some cool fuel injection kits, self tuning ones, in the US, is that what you are gong for?
Also saw a ford motor running two turbos at over 2000 bhp. Impressive!
Looks nice though, very nice.

We're expecting 450-500 at the rear wheels, which means 500-550 at the flywheel. Gonna run a big-ass carburetor.

That's nice power, but why a carb? They are a pig to jet. The fuel injection blocks I saw on US TV when I was over there look to be real no brainers, and give incredible efficiency too.

Because it makes today's faux "car guys" stare in bewilderment. They're a "pig to jet"? Have you ever tuned a carb on a performance car yourself, or are you basing your claim merely according to what you'e heard? I can tune a carb in about an hour. It takes a real good tuner I know more than four hours to tune a computer-controlled car.

Yes, Weber DCNFs and DCOEs. Emulsion tubes, transfer jets, mains jets, idle jets, venture size... I even ended up making my own venturis on a lathe!
You have to get it all right to get perfect fueling at all revs, on all throttle loads, for the cam profile you have, and its a pig.
These fuel injection bodies, with a few sensors, and a ECU, look to do a damn fine job to me.

For me, it's primary and secondary jets, air bleeds, power valves and accelerator pumps (since I'm running a mech secondary carb, I don't have to deal with vacuum advance or choke settings). If you start out with the proper size of carburetor, it's already pretty close to being right. You rarely have to change the primary jets. The only real problem area is secondary tip-in when you start pressing on the throttle. I'll have a wideband air/fuel gauge to help with part-throttle and WOT fuel mixture, and we'll also have it running on a chassis dyno, so we can actually put the car into gear and mess with the carb as if it's actually driving on the street.

You will need to.
I finally got so fed up messing around and got a 'tuning weber carbs' book, and it just made it more complex! But at least it made sense. There is a heck of a lot going on in a carb. I also ended up buying a load of small drills so I could make my own jet sizes.
