Yes, you could be right there, we need to sublime our antipathy to a higher plane.
Oh, and I have some cracking ideas for some really offensive posts already.

Yeah, you probably need to tone down the offensive: I'm pretty thick skinned but you even managed to offend me.

What do you do if you can't think for yourself at the office?

Look, I am sorry, I was trying to find fault with yor post, but I really cant, it is as accurate and precise a post as I have ever seen.
And begs the question, why do people who DONT know get promoted to management?

Exactly.
THESE PEOPLE REALLY BOTHER ME!! How can they know what you should do without knowing what you want done?!?!

Isn't that the definition of "office worker?" Where's the obligatory Dilbert?

Unposted because it's nearly all of them?

I'd like to agree, except these days I happen to be one again.

Nah, I'm the one that upvoted you. You know me, I'm about as sensitive as a tree stump.

Demote yourself from management so you can think for everybody else again.

Hi All,
I have done a lot of C a fair amount of VB6, experienced some VB.NET (say no more!), a fair amount of C# and some other languages including C++, I am now seeing a lot people advertising for Scripting wizzes. I only have some limited experience with Python (I am still trying to get better) and debugging some TCL scripts. Are they really worth it, I mean if I needed to install some drivers or something I would cook up a batch file and go (mind you Windoze 8 has probably nuked that as well)... I have used some TCL test scripts which I think I could cook up an application to do in less time...just wondering Yes it's that Friday time...

Ever used Gaffer tape? All these scripting languages are the same thing but for IT ...

Hmm, A detail often missed with my CV is my skills with Gaffer Tape (or Duck Tape as this Xed calls it). So it can be used where a more elegant solution would take too long...I have repaired everything from RFID readers to flip flops with the stuff. I have seen it do things that I thought was impossible. Give me a soldering iron, leatherman/multitool, reel of gaffer, I can fix or bodge most things with those three, try explaining why you have a reel in your bag at customs...

You think that's tricky to explain - when I was replacing the battery and earth straps on my car I was equipped with a pry bar, a tub of Vaseline and a number of cable ties. That would have been a difficult conversation if the police had happened upon me walking along the street...

You win. I will never forget the look on that customs agent though...

Maybe they cost less?
Or the advertiser doesn't understand the problem and thinks it can be done with a script very quickly.
Or tried it with a script, failed, and still thinks it can be done that way.
Or had a pile of script poo dumped in his lap and just wants it gone.
You'll never get very far if all you do is follow instructions.
