Pretty amazing, I might have tried 40 or so years ago.

I have finally convinced she-that-must-be-obeyed that paying vast quantities of (my) money for the privilege of not watching many channels of crap is a waste. Especially as we have the goodly services of Messrs. Prime, Netflix and Hulu. Whereas I am happiest when tinkering with and fixing technology, she is most certainly not. Ergo I'm looking for a foolproof, easy-to-use set-top box that won't involve me (or the kids) to find everything. After reading reviews on line I'm considering the Amazon Fire TV. Comments and viable alternatives welcome.

Don't have an opinion of Amazon Fire TV.
But I've used the Wii to acccess Netflix and Prime and find it more than acceptable, even over wifi. There's the occasional lag but I believe that's due to my bandwidth availability. As for usability of the interface, my wife and kids all find it very usable.
Often modern DVD players have a built-in access to netflix and other online streaming services. Have you considered Roku[^]? I've heard/read good things about their product.
Whatever you do, I think you'd want something that can also stream local content from your LAN.

I use my Sony DVD player for Netflix access. It works. Barely. I've been considering an alternative and the Roku 3 keeps winning for me. The oddest thing in reviews is that Roku supports Amazon Prime better than Amazon's device.

Better? In what ways?

Roku apparently has better search functionality.

I have an Apple TV. It works well, and will stream netflix and hulu plus (not hulu) even without using iTunes. I haven't seen anything concerning Amazon Prime.
My daughter uses the XBox, which has apps for all three.
A friend of mine swears by his Roku, but he also has a bunch of other gear set up for streaming to ever device in his house.
Another friend has that Google dongle, and he really likes it, but I don't know what capabilities or dependencies it has.

Bought Prime a while ago for free shipping and online TV / Movies.
My son and I used his laptop with an HDMI cable to watch Amazon TV.
Bought Fire TV for the wife because it would be easier for her to use.
She refuses to learn to use it -- says Amazon doesn't have anything she wants to watch.

After a few weeks of exercising, drinking only water and green tea and having no cake, crisps or anything with a considerable amount of fat and/or sugar... I lost 2 kg!
2 kg doesn't sound like much of an achievement, but I come from 64 kg, so that's not a lot already (I'm 1,80m long)...
I'm trying to get rid of my belly (where most, if not all, of that 64 kg is stored...). Looks like a beer belly, except I don't drink beer.
And I actually started working out with dumbells. Maybe I can grow some muscles and actually gain some weight (with muscles, not fat).
I'm hoping the new and improved me will be ready in a few months (or at least version 2.0)
Who knows I'll keep up this healthy new lifestyle with good food and exercise and I'll get the 2.1 upgrade of myself.

Congrats on the weight loss, sometimes just getting started can be the most difficult part.
It was broke, so I fixed it.

Yeah, it was difficult. But now that I'm seeing results I want more!

Two and a half years ago I started going to the gym three times a week (20 minutes weights, 20 minutes walking/cycling) and reduced my caloric intake to 1450 calories (using MyFitnessPal and being very accurate in my serving sizes.) I didn't pay much attention to what I actually ate and lost 18 pounds within six months (and have maintained my weight since.) More importantly, I went from about 25% body fat to about 18%, which is really the more important measure.
For the record, my carb, fat, protein diet percentage is 55, 30, 15. (I've learned that if I reduce my carbs and fat below that, it really hammers me and causes my anxiety to increase, among other things. Of course, everyone is different so you have to learn what works best for you.)

Wow, good work!
Going from 25% to 18% is indeed more important than your actual weight. If I keep doing what I do now I think I'll even gain some weight because I'll grow some muscles (which is of course a good thing!).
I'm not as strict as you though, my fat percentage is pretty much allright, it's just all stacked in one place.
The key to losing weight and staying that way is by changing the way you live. In my case it means a little more exercise. So once my belly reaches the size I want it to be I'll start snacking again (from time to time) and I'll keep exercising. Should hopefully do it for me

I just started doing the same, myfitnesspal only though and I've lost about 5 pounds just doing that. Will start exercising this week.
And, btw, good work!
