That is the question.
I am looking at using Embarcadero (either C++ Builder or Delphi) to write some windows/win8/android/iphone apps. I briefly looked at Xamarin but it is out of my price range. Besides, I don't really care to make monthly payments to them.
I currently don't have a Mac so I realize that I can't actually write an iphone app but I do want the ability to when I can.
I am just looking for folks who have used Embarcadero to create the apps or experienced it in some way. I used C++ Builder years ago and really liked it, I also used Delphi about 10 years ago. So this should be familiar to me.
Any suggestions?

Methinks $300 for the Indie license is pretty decent - that's less than $1/day for a year of upgrades. The license is perpetual, so you if you're happy with the latest upgrade you can continue to use it to build apps without forking out more $.

Especially since that other one charges like $3.7k, I'd rather pay $300.

Good suggestion. I was looking at the starter edition (159.00). There are some limits but I am fine with those for the time being. The next step up for me was professional, which is 512.00. I figured that would last for a few years. That is 670 for a few years. I could get 2 years of Xamarin for that, was also thinking that I lost Xamarin when I quit the subscription.
Time to revisit it.

Just looked again at Xamarin, if the monthly indie subscription expires so does the license to use Xamarin. It looks like the monthy subscription is a trial until 9-1-2014. If they go back to a yearly subscription I think it is usable after the subscription expires. I might send them a question.

The yearly Indie subscription is still around. The monthly subscriptions may eventually be phased out. This info is in their FAQ, or you can call them. I've had a good experience with Xamarin, both codewise and in dealing with their support devs and tech evangelists.

The last good/useful version of Delphi was 7. Since then, Borland/Inprise and now Embarcadero has just made it worser and worserer.

I jump straightly from BCB 6 to XE3. It's much better now (except for the help system, I'm still using BCB6 help :p ).

..and atleast for me Chrome is better than ever. The text rendering is a good update. No more annoying full bar for Password save/cancel. Only a popup to either save password or not.
I'm having Version 37.0.2062.103 m and I believe this is a great update. But still needs a fix for fast page loading.
But, let's wait.

Font rendering took a big nosedive for the app I work on. The space between the characters and the underline went away. We are still debating what we are going to do for it. Either increase the font size or change fonts, neither of which are good options.

Well, you see millions of adverts that say "Use Chrome!!!", and Chrome is installed automatically with lots of unrelated products, so just do the opposite: put notices saying "Don't Use Chrome!!!", and include a routine in your product installer that uninstalls Chrome.

I got the same update for both my computers (work/home) and on one (work) it is just all right, but on the other (home) it stopped to work at all (I can make it work with command line argument --no-sandbox!!!)...Asked Google but no answer...

So, the left/right tab navigation arrows have been moved to the left and right sides of the tab bar, which makes it a HUGE mouse movement to scroll tabs left and right. I have 20, 30, maybe 40 tabs sometimes open and I need to zip back-and-forth between tabs, which they've now made really inconvenient.
Then, when poking around "tab groups", which looks like nothing more than a way of changing the order of tabs (I was thinking you could create groups of tabs, after all, isn't that what "tab groups" means?) I blew my entire stack of tabs away, and the History -> open all closed tabs doesn't give me my full list.
Crap.
Worse yet, I thought I had TURNED OFF automatic update, because I do a lot of Ruby on Rails integration testing and I don't want the damn browser updating to something that Selenium doesn't support. In fact, I'm sure I turned this off, but Firefox updated anyways.
