We could have a global version of the attempted climate control event that occured at a small music festival in 1969.

It's ridiculous in a quaintly old fashioned way to believe praying can change anything.

I think you're about to start two flame wars with a single post. That is an accomplishment I must say. Why haven't you throw US elections into the post too?

This could be a hard sell since many religious leaders deeply believe in some form of Eschaton, or Apocalypse, and may think it's close at hand, and well-deserved, because of our ... fill in the blank ... inherently sinful nature ... sinful behavior ... wickedness ... greed ... ?
Perhaps re-forestation and fostering carbon sequestration could be sold as a form of "penance" for those religions which really lay the guilt-trip thing on thick ?

Interesting reply.
Of course GW is just another doomsday religion that demands sacrifice so the implication here is that these scientists, knowing this, are trying to get existing proponents of one doomsday/sacrifice model to absorb their particular doomsday/sacrifice model.
Its almost like asking them to change religion.

Lots of people listen to spiritual leaders and ignore what science tells them, particularly if it's inconvenient. So it seems like a pretty sensible move to me.

Yeah, they have quite a bit in common actually. Dooms day cults should be particularly responsive...

Bitter sweets: Could Ebola affect chocolate supplies?[^]
Quote: West Africa produces nearly three-quarters of the world's cocoa
It's the end of the world as we know it. Next we'll find out Ebola affects the bacon supply.

It could affect the bacon and coffee and gin supplies, if those suppliers succumb to the zombie virus. You could snap into a crispy bacon slice and get a gnarly case of the 'bola. Then John would have to hunt you down, cause you just went zombie on us.

Almost, ALMOST, enough to put you off eating chocolate. Screw it, what's the runs for a couple of weeks and a bit of blood, I'm eating the chocolate anyway.

Ebola can be killed with soap and warm water so the only place in danger of a pandemic is Luton.

I'm a little surprised. The airlines are tightwads (my son used to work for Air Canada Jazz), but they are usually sticklers for safety. I suppose it depends on the definition of Quote: appropriate protective gear

(personal opinion alert)
All the happenings currently with Ebola, is just the beginning. Because we are such a tolerant country, and more politically correct then in the past, we will not close our borders or do anything intelligently here with this crisis.
I am sure the rest of the world will act the same way, more or less.
We are in for one big zombie roller coaster.
