From their website, I fail to see how the word "shine" can be used to describe a two dimensional monochromatic UI.

I would suggest GitHub. I find it a lot easier to poke around the code, see revisions, clone it, possibly fork it if I want to make contributions...

Uh oh. Does that mean yet another undocumented project will be joining the ranks of the millions already on CodePlex and GitHub? (poke, prod, poke...)

Well said that like that it doesn't seems very convincing does it?!
But from home usage I really prefer Word 2013 to earlier version, ribbon, menu, window border, all fade in the background and leave their place the main content... Really like it.
My home app will have the same look!

MM... one should pay attention to March Clifton's programming advice! So I will give it a closer look!

Ok, ok! ^_^ Mm... I might have a CodeProject article eventually!!! One steps at a time though! + not many project are google match for "Ribbon + Menu"

I host all my code on Github. I find it very easy to use. It was one of the first to implement DVCS (Distributed Version control), way ahead of the likes of CodePlex and SourceForge. It also has really useful features such as forking and submitting pull requests.

After completing it, you might want to consider offering it as a service. All kinds of things are being offered a a service[^] now, ye know?

I use github for my personal open source code and git for all my personal and professional source control.
I would suggest getting something like git extensions to help manage your local repository.

It depends alot on whether you are a MS-only developer: Nobody outside MS circle know or heard about Codeplex. Having a Github project looks good on your resume especially when you apply for that non MS-tech related job.

I am happy enough sticking with .NET!
And while I (sadly) do Web dev at the moment!
I long for the day where I'll be back doing WPF / WinRT / MonoForms!

Go with GitHub. It is definitely where the momentum is and even Microsoft is moving everything over to GitHub. I wouldn't say Codeplex is dead, but the momentum is definitely on GitHub.

Might do it.. fork and push request are, apparently, much easier to do, which would be a good thing!

Github is more popular, but CodePlex is more intuitive. When code is Linux/variant C-ish based, Github is good. For .Net C#, VB, etc., CodePlex.
To be honest, it doesn't really matter unless you are open sourcing something amazing. If it is just a utility, a niche site, etc...doesn't matter if you use a public repository.
For me, I only Github or Codeplex to show code examples for potential employers or customers.

Well I think I should at least create a GitHub account! ^_^
But I heard there is way to do external submission on GitHub, which is cool, gonna investigate that!
Well realistically might be that awesome! but would be good for employers to have a look!

It looks like I'm in the minority, but I think CodePlex is easier to use.

Well I do like CodePlex!
Just been convinced to study GitHub more closely, so I will! We shall see!

I use both for different purposes.
GitHub is for close source, personal and commercial repository.
Codeplex is for public releases, freeware releases.
GitHub is more technical user friendly.
Codeplex is more end-user (non-technical person) friendly.
End-user (non-technical person) will prefer download software at codeplex than at GitHub.
Codeplex is more direct and cleaner for end-user.
I used to use Codeplex as main official site for open source freeware (currently).

I would *like* to recommend CodePlex (and support MS in doing so), but in all honesty (and with my limited experience) GitHub just seems better. Probably doesn't matter either way if you aren't planning on allowing other people to submit patches/work on the code etc. If you're just publishing what you've done in a take it or leave it fashion then codeplex seems ok (and if you only care about the MS community seeing it).
If you want more exposure/something good on your resume, or if you really want to receive updates from other devs, and see other people turn your work into new variations etc then GitHub seems much better.
Also, not sure but I think codeplex might actually support some kind of git/github integration now? It might be that if you choose git as source control on codeplex then the issues I mentioned go away. Like I said, my experience is limited, but these days I would personally go with GitHub.

Yeah, maybe I have to go with the flow...
Though wherever it is hosted who cares? But GitHub have a submit pull request, I heard, which seem quite interesting!

Hey.. CodePlex has pull request too!
And work with HG (which my project is already set to accept)...

I have registered my site on Google Adsense. But No idea how that works and how it pays!!
Any Idea guys?
Thanks
