The only explanation I can come up with is that I learned to type on an old fashioned mechanical typewriter - and compared to that, almost anything feels nice - particularly since, if I type too fast, the keys don't lock in a clump up near the ribbon.

Nope, not quite. If you really want to indulge your IBM nostalgia, Unicomp[^] has bought the rights to sell buckling spring keyboards that look just like the old IBM models.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

I'm born the 24th of September, so somebody seems to have had fun on Xmas eve!
Note: In Denmark, we celebrate Xmas on the 24th, not the 25th...

The operate word is "celebrate" we have the party on the 24th - not the 25th like I understand you do in England and a lot of other countries Wiki Link[^]...
If I take out "eve" and just write "Xmas", will it help your confusion?
Good thing that you focus on the most important part of the post!
