I've been turning a blind eye to the commentary on the British Election mainly because I've been in bed as sick as a dog, but for fairness sake we need to stick to the rules and have all politics in the Soapbox[^] please.

I hope you are feeling human again?
If not, then get well soon - hopefully it's nothing serious.

I wouldn't say that there has been any political discussion; more like a general consensus that we all hate all politicians.
Besides, one of our own was involved.
He's not involved any more, of course... (Bwah-hah-hah-hah-haaa!)
(I know, I know, it's cruel of me to mock losers. Losers are people, too*.)
But the point remains that I haven't seen any political points being made; just people having a laugh at political @rseholes candidates, with no mention of their policies.
No-one is soapboxing this party's policies or that's, so it's not political discussion, it's just discussion about the events of the day.
We're English, so we can make the distinction between having a discussion about political preferences and having a laugh -- something that the Usians proved they can't do, when that filthy politician of some party or other was elected as president, back whenever it was. Every few years, I think.
I think the closest we got to being political was when Nagy and I had a poke at racism, but that still falls short of the mark.
* DD, if you don't take a poke back, I'll tell everyone you're a wuss!

Hey, we don't ALL hate politicians!
Some of us find them entertaining, in a gallows humor sort of way... And occasionally delicious, with a side of fava beans and a nice chianti.

I think the problem with the image of politicians is that we only see them in one context (when they're lying through their teeth to us).
Maybe they could improve that image by doing what others in the public eye do to improve their image -- a reality TV show, where they're subjected to something that they're not normally subjected to.
I think I'll write up an outline and send it to Fox. I reckon "I'm a Politician, Please don't Waterboard me Again!" would be a hit.

How can you tell when a politician is lying?

As can a lot of the rest of the world. I get it.
However, it's either I fine tune the warning to specifically define "Discussions about Politics" and "Discussions about Everyday Things That Happen To Revolve Around Politics" and the difference between having a laugh and grinding one's axe, or I just, for the purposes of sanity, say "how about we step over here and discuss this away from the gentle-folk, lads".
It's been a long day.

I trust you all to keep the conversation about how rigged it all was and how he should have got the guernsey because he's such a fine upstanding lad and not to devolve this into, say, actual politics.
