That explains a lot: TV Brits always carry a brelly - and now we know the storms they expect.
With CP, you learn something every day. If they had a sunny season, I'd make sure I only visit the islands then - they do have sunny seasons, don't they ?

The UK doesn't really have any seasons when it comes to the weather, it is (I believe) the most unpredictable and changeable in the world.
Probably why the British spend so much of their time talking about the bloody weather.

I've been all over the Internet and can't find a fix that is relevant to my issue or that has fixed it. It is minor and should be able to be lived with, but both users of the computer are over 70 and just want to click an icon and type in a password.
Got the computer because one of the users couldn't login due to a borked profile entry in the registry. Sorted this and all was good, then installed the million and one Windows Updates available and the issue arose. This is Windows 7 Home Premium, so no advanced tools available that your Professional/Enterprise/Ultimate versions have.
So what is the issue? The Welcome Screen when the computer is turned on now no longer has both user icons. It has the last user to login and Other User icons.
I have checked that the following settings are as expected. Need Ctrl+Alt+Del to login not required / Users need to enter password is set / Remember last user to login not set / and any of the others listed.
I have used the dialogs available via netplwiz and control userpasswords2 and also via the Registry keys below.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
Anyone got an idea? I'm stumped and about to return it and advise they have to type a username cause Microsoft wants them too.

No, the account is active and I can login without issue. It is just the Welcome Screen that has stuffed up.

That both accounts are active and members of the Administrators group. Added both users to the Users group (as another fix advised will get them back on the Welcome Screen) with
net localgroup Users Waz /add
Both users have correct settings in Registry ProfileList and also user directories in the C:\Users directory. I can login as both of them.

And what if you do not include these accounts into the Administrators group? Only the Users one.

Sorry, this may be useless, I hardy touch windows but try opening the policy editor for local policies and checking out the options in there, you're probably likely to find it.
Fairly sure thats where all the applicable settings where last time I had an issue like this, Fairly sure I've had a security suite kill me with something like that.

Being serious, it may not be possible, if it's caused by updates. Probably done by M$ in the name of 'simplifying things'.
You can get programs that custom-make your login screen[^], so that might be an option. Obviously it might be a security risk too, but that's up to your discretion.
Give changing Fast User Switching on/off as well. That might have something to do with it.
Another hacky workaround is to design an auto-login program that logs both users in on PC bootup, in some way - that will make their icons be specified explicitly as per the lock screen design.

So, a while back I started listening through Rolling Stone magazine's list of 500 Greatest Albums of All-Time[^] starting with #500 and working my way down to #1. I'm on #458 (Elton John's Tumbleweed Connection) right now. Prior to that was The Drifters' Golden Hits, preceded by Hole's Live Through This. Needless to say, it's been a strange day at work...
I haven't skipped a single song, although I've definitely wanted to a few times. Yesterday, I listened to Metal Box from Public Image Ltd, which was probably the most difficult album to get through so far... Just an awful album.
Has anyone else ever done this? I got the idea from a friend I went to college with.

Actually not. The list is a mash up of the opinions of just about anybody who ever wrote for (or in some cases merely bought a copy of!) Rolling Stone. The result is a really weird list with a heavy emphasis on what was cool in the late sixties and early seventies (half a dozen Beatles albums in the top 50 with Sgt. Pepper no. 1!) and none of the top 15 from outside that period. Nirvana's the first 90s album at 17. I very much doubt that there is anybody in the whole world who has purposely listened to every song on every album on the list. Personally I wouldn't give 75% of it the time of day!

I wouldn't bother with the top 50 either unless you're particularly interested in the careers of The Beatles and Bob Dylan!
