I found exactly the same problem, too many pre-arranged encounters with interrupting animations. I like to clear the angles with grenades but it was often useless due to the mechanic.

Looks promising. It's been delayed a ton, so hopefully that means they took their time making the game they wanted to make. Lots of people have very strong feelings about what a "Doom" game should be, so no matter what they do, someone is going to hate it. Hopefully the number of people that love it outweigh the number that hate it.
EDIT: One of my favorite parts of the video is how much the crowd cheered when he picks up the chainsaw and then uses it for the first time. My 4-year old self has a lot of great memories using that thing.
