The Chinese family of three on the back of Plai Somjai (that's the elephant's name) have been rescued after three hours in the forest after Plai gored his mahout to death and ran off [^].
The story now reads that Plai saw another mahout who had abused him in the past, became enraged, shook his head, causing his mounted mahout to fall off, then gored his mahout on the ground.
I'll bet that one's traumatized Chinese family.
My sympathies go out to them, and the family of Khun Surachai, the deceased mahout.

No, the lesson is to ride only elephants who claim to be members of a group which purports to adhere to a doctrine of "forgive and forget".

Poor form old chap. The soapbox back-room is -------> that-a-way.
"When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down 'happy'. They told me I didn't understand the assignment, and I told them they didn't understand life." - John Lennon

Oh yes? I seem to be missing things as I get older.
Perhaps you'd be kind enough to direct my attention to the previous mention of religion in the topic?

Nope. Nothing wrong with that post.

Perhaps you and I share a different understanding of rule #4?
Not only is religion brought into a topic that has nothing to do with it, but it also contains an implied insult against a competing one.
While I wont vote abuse, since I feel that is a little too strong, a down-vote to PIEBALDconsult would certainly have been sent with my regards if they were still available.
I'm interested in re-aligning my views if they go against the group consensus, so I'll ask you - why do you think the comment was acceptable?

Quite the contrary.

It merely contains praise for the Christian faith?

It is quite hard at the moment to not joke about Catholic elephants, as a subgroup of Christians.

If the abuse-button is abused, it will probably be removed.

Looks like a light-hearted comment. Also does not look like a religious discussion, that one should not want for the obvious reason that CodeProject is not the place for a religious battlefield.

Eddy Vluggen wrote: The abuse-button is there to report abuse, not to express your emotions. Exactly. Improper use of something (the lounge, in this case) constitutes one of the definitions of abuse.
You've actually used the same definition of the word yourself. I.e, improper/inappropriate use.
Eddy Vluggen wrote: Are you implying he meant his words literally? Nope, just that the comment introduced the notion of religion.
Yeah, I figured it was likely intended as a light-hearted quip too - that was what coloured my response and the intentional and considered use of the term of endearment 'old chap'. It was also why I declined to flag it in the first place.
I'm increasing of the opinion that my views are miss-aligned with those of others here. My decision to reply to any responses has probably given the topic more air than it deserves and prolonged it. I'm going to decline to respond publicly any further until tomorrow, if at all.
Any/all personal messages will receive a response as time permits.

Had it really been praise I would have agreed with you; but without that it becomes rather harmless.
