Another professional of the same heart...
I have just completed a long, sociological piece on this very problem in the software development profession that is going to go up on my technical blog ("TECH NOTES") as well as published on the CodeProject and jaxEnter.
Since I have been in the profession for such a long time I have seen all of these fads come and go but currently it appears to be the worst I have experienced as it is turning the profession on its ear.
My piece should be up on "TECH NOTES" by the end of the day... https://blackfalconsoftware.wordpress.com/

I just read it -- very well stated!

I'm so glad you enjoyed it...
It took three solid days to write it and finessing the sociology with the events in our profession was quite a difficult task.

nice.
"Do you really need to use a “repository” pattern when all you need to do is just access the bloody database!?"
and just a couple hours before reading the article i was reminiscing about how cell phones used to sit in the glove compartment [glove box] for emergencies. wild.

I'll wait until it's stabilized but it does look interesting.

We are still missing core features like accessibility, text input, localization, and more.
This is like me writing an article about a program that reads your mind and writes perfect code for you. Missing core features like mind reading and code generation.

Hello all,
Let's say I want to install an APK from APKMirror into my Android phone... and let's say this apk has been scanned with VirusTotal, NVISO and Anubis...
Can I trust them when all of them are claiming that the APK is legit and that it doesn't have malware?
I know nobody has a magic wand here, but which have been your experiences with that?
Thank you all!

Have you ever installed programs on your PC that you downloaded from the internet?
|
|
|
|
|
Yes of course, but usually from trusted places and after using at least a trusted (yes, I know this is not OK) antivirus software...
Now I can see APKMirror to be a place from where to pick a lot of programs, but I don't know if they are reliable or not so all the virus scan solutions I've mentioned...
That's why I was asking about personal experiences and feedback on those sites...

Just make sure the package name is 'evilevilandevil.apk'.

Damn! I already installed "nothingnastyinherenosireedefinatelynovirusesortrojans.apk" and I was wondering why my bank account was emptying...
Bad command or file name. Bad, bad command! Sit! Stay! Staaaay...

Most Antivirus engines will use a static check for known bad stuff using signitures, or if is running then it can be flagged using the way the program works.
The problem is there are so many ways to hide what the program does from normal searches they may not be discovered untill a person sepends alot of time going thru it.
I've been doing malware research lately and have seen some pretty crazy ways they hide there real code from the antivirus engines.
So Yes, it is possible malware could slip by.
You would have to trust the source where they are downloaded from and also the author of the file.

I think "someone" may have missed the fundamentals of CCC design.
The lines have been blurred lately in this forum, I must admit, but in the original format a clue always comprised two clues:
1 a pure lexical one
2 a witty metaphor or such
Life is too shor

Someone did eventually solve yesterdays by email.
Portsmouth Stoke-on-Trent Colchester Derby Sheffield (9 characters)
Clue 1. I'll admit the clue is UK-centric, but I'm sure someone should be able to deliver the answer.
Clue 2. The answer is the solution.
Clue 3. Pat would get this in a zip.

I know it!
Was yesterdays the same but the un-pluralised version? I thought it when you posted the same clue but couldn't get it from the cities.
|
|

|

Nope, yesterdays word was a very different word.
The cities matter.
Some men are born mediocre, some men achieve mediocrity, and some men have mediocrity thrust upon them.

will we ever get to know yesterdays answer?
|
|
|
|

Yes, but it would give away today's as the code is exactly the same.
I didn't go with today's yesterday as I thought it was blindingly obvious, which is often the way when you know the solution.
I think I may have tried to be too clever and buggered it up.
I did consider going with Salisbury East Central London Truro Saint Albans for a different eight letter word today but stopped with what I thought was the basic one.
Some men are born mediocre, some men achieve mediocrity, and some men have mediocrity thrust upon them.
