That's the solution.
Ever since I've had a machine powerful enough to run VMs, I've had no need for dual-booting. Or triple. Or more.
I suppose there could still be cases where you need a physical machine, but then, with the number of VMs I rely on, powering it down is a 20-minute job, so if I'm going to constantly reboot something, it's gonna be an older/separate machine anyway.

One sensible reason to only update an operating partition is to make sure it's operational and what state it's currently in. A dormant partition could, perhaps, be destroyed by an update that causes conflicts with active processes that are, for example, hibernating.
Be that as it may - the unstoppable auto-update is my reason for making Win7 my last version of Windows (certainly for my own systems).

And what about VMs?
It is a bit complicated, to check partitions (that may not visible at all) from inside the OS...
Skipper: We'll fix it.
Alex: Fix it? How you gonna fix this?
Skipper: Grit, spit and a whole lotta duct tape.

Not at all.
It's up to the user to detect whether or not Win 10 is on the system.
And, if it is, remove it.

I really like Win 10, but I can understand some of the complaints...

I think things will work out better for you once you accept that you will install Win10 solely! You will use it for everything. Brush your teeth with it. Walk your dog with it. Breastfeed your children with it. Resistance is futile.
