So...the three votes on the petition are you, Mycroft, and jgkenhe?
You have a long way to go...

Still a good three weeks to go, have a little faith!

Can you even outlaw javascript on a web-based petition? Doesn't that break causality in some way?
|
|
|

My specific suggested list of languages to restrict from use, and phase out includes:
Javascript, Ruby, and Java.
Amen! Got my sig!

Absolutely agree with petition creator in terms of real outlaw of IT poop! But MY LIST is different:
1. JavaScript
2. Python
3. PHP
These are most ugly, error prone and dangerous languages in IT!

|
I am curious, what are your alternative!

|
|
|

Why, VBScript, of course!

OK, got you! I think C# could be good replacement for all of 'em.
Web scripting (ASP and "browser language") DOES NOT mean language cannot be "statically typed". Quite opposite: as soon as your code reaches 10KLOC, you strictly need some control above that! I spit on display seeing ugly JS code, which idiot-web-developer made working in FireFox only! And tons of errors "property/element not found" - just because it was dynamic JavaScrap.
As a bonus we have already written library (Framework) to have really rich applications!

I like your list and Ruby, and Java.
|
|
|
|
|
hehe Why?
Ruby is like OOP Perl. It's dynamic and also has its own niche. May be not for serious Web-development, but for scripting - why not?
Java - hell knows... I have no sympathy for this simplistic language, but at least it's OOP and allows mediocres write acceptable programs. It's not evil, definitely

If I start a petition to ban elepants and sunshines in the lounge, will CPers migrate to stack overflow?
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

If only he would add PHP he'd have my vote.

How are you going to outlaw protected speech? Code is expression/speech, pretty much already established. If you don't like a language, then don't use it. If your job requires it, find a better job for yourself, let those of us who would like it, have that job.
As an aside, who came up with this **STUPID** idea, anyway? The FBI?

Today a man knocked on my door and asked for a small donation towards the local swimming pool.
I gave him a glass of water.

Well I got Chromecast and was fantastic. Working fine. But I'm not happy with the Wifi data usage. It eats lot of data even if you are not casting. It uses upto 20MB-40MB per hour while idle. Dont mention when your are casting it. The strange thing is that the app(Chromecast app) don't have WiFi disconnect functionality. Well there are ways mean but I would say there are inefficient and I don't consider them helpful.
1. To select other WiFi instead of yours. Which in my case no other Wifi available.
2. To unplug the chromecast from the power line not from the TV(This still consumes Wifi data).
Is there anyone knows other app(Android or iOS) that do WiFi disconnect from chromecast.
I wounder who designed the app this way.

I've got an original Chromecast, and I've not noticed that - I just checked my router status page, and my CC isn't even connected.
I was using it 15 minutes ago took stream a video from my NAS, and used the casting app to disconnect at the end, then switched away from HDMI to AVI for the Sky box.
And currently the CC doesn't even appear as a WiFi connected device on my network...
It's possible that the newer one works very differently, but this one doesn't seem to be showing the problem.
For casting I use LocalCast, which has a "disconnect app on TV" option. What are you using?

I'm using Chrome cast[^] which I got it from local Best Buy. The app totally crap. The hardware is simple and handy. It just nonsense not to have a disconnect func. Don't make sense.

Try Localcast[^] or VideoStream Mobile[^] which Joan Murt really likes - I haven't played with it that much yet, but it transcodes on the fly, so it plays more formats than the Chromecast normally accepts.

None of them have the capability to disconnect Wifi. Thanks for the help.
