Can older articles question submissions be turned off, or redirected to a general forum if the author no longer wishes to respond?
IMO bad idea. I've used a number of older articles as reference where Member B answered a question from Member A that was relevant to me even though the author was MIA.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

Sorry, should have clarified that. I didn't mean not to show the existing questions/answers, but to not allow new questions being submitted to the author, if they no longer wish to receive them. This would still be allow a reference to the existing questions.

Still a bad idea. Maybe someone else with more interest could answer the question.

I'm looking at ferries across the Med [secret to where] and they're all 9 hours plus for our destination. The longest crossing of 27 hours is also half the price of the next one
