I just call the NSA and ask them to hack the poster's machine and send me the answer. If it's not on the PC then they do the thought reading bit for me.

I do everything like that without googling.
I'll only google a puzzle after I've admitted defeat, and then only if I'm really curious about it (which happens almost never).
This is known, in the trade, as the non-wanker-way.

I would like to thank the author's for their work.
It was really difficult to place my votes. While it was quite easy in the past to select my favorites, it took a lot of time today to select my personal maximum of three articles. Even some articles at the end of my personal list seem to be better than winning articles of the past.

Wow, I've got two articles in the contest. Last month was a busy article writing month. This month is a desert. But a couple things in the queue.

But I didn't see the competition at the front page, I had to go into the surveys to find them. Is this a new thing now?

It is there for me and part of the main page (checked the HTML source).
Did you tried a page refresh?

Refresh, that worked, I feel very stupid now

You send invalid values to a web service that causes it to crash, and you get told it's your fault for doing something 'daft'...
Mondays eh?

Well... there should be validation of user input and also error handling
|
|
|
|

There should and there will be, I haven't created the UI yet. I was just checking the responses from the web service so I could return the errors [I was incorrectly assuming I would get] to the user.

Don't you just love defensive programming?
Or is that defensive programmers?
Bad command or file name. Bad, bad command! Sit! Stay! Staaaay...

I love it when you can reply Yes and No to the same post.
Although I always assumed defensive programming was just called programming.

The only reason we have defensive programming is because we also have offensive management

We also have offensive programming ... it's anything in VB!

I happen to like VB(.NET, mind you!) and find your post very offensive

Why so surprised? There's no end of offensive programmers.

That moment....
Yesterday after a long day in hot, sunny and warm Netherlands when you stop at the yellow M and order menu's for 8 people/kids. And then that you find out you forgot to order a bottle of water. Went back to order it and the pretty blond gives you a receipt to pick up that bottle at another counter where about 25 people are waiting for their meals being made, more people add the crowd and your nr 56 does not come up in the finished menu part on that screen. My fries cold, I was glad I had a salad. But no teenager at that pick up counter that scans all the order for small or single items. It took 33 minutes waiting for that 1 bottle. The were astonished that I complained about it. I asked her if she needed a ticket from a her boss to go too the loo....like she can only workout orders by tickets....
In Word you can only store 2 bytes. That is why I use Writer.
