You are wrong, it is very common at all levels of society.

Which society? Oh, don't bother. I take that as your way of saying that you gamble.

It's pretty rampant here Rajesh, it's been a saying for decades that Australians would bet on two flies on a wall. For a period of time (no more than a decade or so ago) NSW was home to 25% of the worlds poker machines. Many of our governments State and Federal rely on taxes from gambling, cigarettes and alcohol. Funnily enough the first and last can still advertse but need disclaimers advising they are bad and addictive.

That says a lot; I stand corrected, and I'm speechless.
It somehow comes across as a "not so good" thing to me no matter how many of the adverts I see. It might probably have something to do with the society I grew up in where gambling is mostly illegal and is looked down upon.

In Italy there are a dozen of lotteries, two very popular number-extracting games (Lotto and SuperEnalotto), a couple of soccer-related betting games (Totocalcio and Totogoal) and since 15 years videopokers in every bar (we have a LOT of bars, about 1 every 200 m on average with peaks of 5 bars in the same square... they are called bars but actually are coffee shops but sell also liquors and pastries) and several betting shops where yuo can bet using the handful of legal and taxed betting companies.
All kind of population bets: consummate professionals, athletes, celebrities, old people who spend the whole pension or sell their houses, students who pool togehter in organized betting schemes, unoccupied people... It's far more popular than what it looks on the outside.
I don't bet, except seldomly with/against friendly people on common occurrences ("I bet 10 coffees that the boss will tell us to do <dumbest choice="" between="" a="" handful="">", "5€ that <obnoxious colleague=""> will greet us with <predictable sentence="">", etc). Or when I'm 100% sure to win but that exploiting dumbness.

For many people in Britain, it is a normal part of daily life. For some people it is the only thing they care about. For the rest of us, we may have the odd flutter on the Grand National, or occasionally buy a lottery ticket.

Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?
