The trailers on semi's bounce like crazy inside. back in 99 my Dad used space in his trailer (was driving for a moving co at the time so was easy to do) to bring a car from one side of the US to the other. It was heavily chained down; but still managed to bounce 5-6" up enough times to completely batter the paint off underneath the loadbars used to suspend cargo above it.
Even if you can read them; I'd assume the HDs are walking dead and suck the data off and retire them asap.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

Most likely cause -- vibration damage. The solder used as the mechanical attachment failed due to metal fatigue from repeated stress of the cable flopping around inside the box. Look at the solder, it probably looks all crystalline.
The hard drives may be OK or not, depending on what kind of vibration stresses they were designed to handle. However, as others have suggested, don't trust them anymore.

Yeah, I made that mistake once. Now I move my own equipment.
the constant "bouncing/rattling" is what does most of the damage,
think about how you open a stuck jar top. Tapping it with the handle of a butter knife.
Same concept. except you let them tap like that for 12+ hours. LOL.
I would replace the powersupply for similar reasons. When that goes, it will take the MB
with it!
I also had UPS deliver a computer once where I had to file a claim. They refused to pay it,
saying it had to be packaged to be dropped REPEATEDLY from 6 feet high without risk of damage.
The fine print wins again. Of course it explains Dells packaging. LOL

Heh heh. They packed it all up on the 22nd of November and it arrived here on the 27th of December and sat...somewhere...before I could take delivery.
Well, it was 5 years old, about due for retirement, anyway (or being passed down to my 8 year old).

I've ordered one of these: Chuwi Hi12 Tablet[^]
Which looks interesting!
Why did you go for the 10 inch rather than the 12 out of interest?

Didn't know there was a 12 inch and I was recently given a case for a 10.1 so no brainer and I'm used to a 10.1 and... Bloody good value and it got here in 4 days from Hayes - a lot I looked at shipped from China which I'm not keen on in case it goes wrong - you did ask

Yeah, the "warrantee from China" bit is a little concerning - but most of the electronic stuff built there is pretty well made these days (most iPhones, a load of tablets, etc.) so I'm not too worried - the reviews I've read haven't mentioned any problems so far.

I'd be interested to hear feedback on these, I've been tempted for a while for when I'm working on the go, probably mostly to use to RDP onto proper machines, so I'd probably get they keyboard included.

I wondering if a un-paid-for review of them (and the Fire tablet I got to tide me over) would be permitted here as an article? If so, then I'll do one once I've got my Hi12 ...
@Chris-Maunder - would that be allowed, and if so in what category?

Absolutely. The hardware review section is your friend (and we need more reviews I reckon!)

The 10.1" Chuwi is absolutely brilliant. It runs anything that you can run on a windows machine with little or no effort -- and I tend to have a lot of stuff open.
I had no trouble at all with it until I managed to drop it from too great a height to land face-down on a central-heating radiator.
Even now, everything works perfectly -- except for the severely cracked touch-screen. But it's got full-sized USB ports, so adding a mouse and keyboard isn't a biggie.
I, too, am waiting on a Hi12 -- that's about as good a "review opinion" as you can get.
With its bigger screen, I won't have to carry a laptop with me all the time.

Was there room to get VS on it? And if so, did it run well?
(The Hi12 uses the same processor / ram combo so if it works on one, it should work on the other)
I also ordered the pogo-pin keyboard, and am dithering over whether to add the stylus or not...

I installed 2008 to a mem card (so that I could use the internal storage for important stuff, like movies and music), and it ran fine. I attributed any occasional lag to the fact that it was on a mem card.
Compile time was a little slow, but it always was, with 2008.

Interesting. I guess VS2015 is going to be horrible though ... Maybe 2010?

I only had a spare license for 2008, but it would have been fun to see how much it struggled with 2015.
