I haven't bothered with anything at my new job, but the most thought I put into when doing it at my old job was to figure out what to name the folder that announcements from the C*O's went into: At the time it was Pravda; in retrospect Isvestia Nyet Pravda would've been a more appropriate fit; which is why that place is my old job...
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

I wanted to reach some understanding about a few lines of code, and the one who wrote it is out of reach for now... So I wanted to see the date it was added/modified, to check in our bug tracking system if there is something related...
So I asked VS to annotate it...
Exactly before the block I interested in there are two lines I just added (10 minutes before), but VS annotated it to 06/03/2011...
How wonderful, now I can trust every date it shows...
Skipper: We'll fix it.
Alex: Fix it? How you gonna fix this?
Skipper: Grit, spit and a whole lotta duct tape.

I'm immune. I drink coffee only if I must and then it usually is 95% milk.

This is Javascript. If you put big wheels and a racing stripe on a golf cart, it's still a f***ing golf cart.

it is 100% coffee for me. No milk and sugar allowed (in my body...)
In Word you can only store 2 bytes. That is why I use Writer.

I'm not sure, but could it be that immune means something different when you live on an island?

So, in other words, you use coffee to enhance the flavor of yer milk.

If at all. I hate coffee.

Today I suddenly realized that the re-org of my Chrome book marks I did yesterday somehow removed/deleted the entire huge collection of C# related links. Probably four months of adding new bookmarks gone bye-bye.
Gasp, shudder, quiver, uncontrollable weeping: Angel with flaming sword appears and carves the words "Did Not Back-up" into my flesh.
Chrome creates one bookmark back-up only, re-writing the current bookmark file each time you open it: [^].
I tried using the Recuva free version [^], which you point at the target folder, and, hot-damn, a few hours later I found recoverable files.
So, my hearties and homies, take a lesson from this tale, and do back-up those book-marks ... along with everything else.
cheers, Bill the Resurrected

We try to make the latter into warnings or, better, errors. I wasn't so lucky. Cleared some browser data and realised that I lost all my progress in a game. Recuva to the rescue. Unrecoverable.
Other times I've had more succses but %appdata% seems more volitaile compared to discs other than c:\
The next time I'm switching discs I'll first run some shredder program on it and then see if anything can be recovered. Fun little experiment to see if you really managed to wipe it.

Whenever possible, don't use %appdata%, %userprofile%, or %programfiles%.
Windows "controls" those directories, so if anything goes wrong, they suffer -- and %userprofile% in particular is likely to get screwed up by updates and OS refreshes.

It is a great feeling when something free saves the day!
I remember I was messing around with hard disks or something like that and screwed up and lost a partition or couldn't extend it or whatever. I remembered there was a free copy of some disk management tools that I had lying around around that came with a magazine. Yes, it was the previous version, and was time limited, but it worked. Fixed the problem!

As some of you may remember, last year in this post I mentioned that my current employer had lost the tender to operate the field I work in. Well here we are 7 months later and today is the day that could change everything again!
The new employment offers are being distributed today from 10am (qatar time).....
So, what does this mean.......potential outcomes:
1) No change.......continue to live and work here with the family, in the same villa, same schools, everything....
2) Slight change......continue to live and work here with the family, but may have to change villas etc. etc.
3) Big change............continue to work here and relocate the family to somewhere I can continue tax free.
4) Disaster change...........continue to work here but relocate the family to the UK, and I stay out the UK as per the tax rules.
5) Disaster 2 change............continue to work here, relocate family and me to the UK.
I have a feeling that option 3 is the way it is going to go....so currently exploring options for Cyprus. My head is mince looking at heaps of different property listings and trying to find somewhere to rent! I think the misses is also in the same option 3 frame of mind, which of course helps any decisions that will be made. Except the arguments will start on where and what villa to look at.
So, roll on today. See what drops in the email.
/bricking it!
