Yes it is. Currently I have *many* people within my friends and colleagues who are desperately searching for an desktop alternative to windows.
But as it comes to private area, the only reason, why windows is still in use by most of those people is: Games.
No platform has such a broad support like DirectX / Steam & Co.
No console guys. MMO guys.
Personally, I gave a big hope to RemixOS or any other Android-for-desktop alternative that might arise, but it seems it won't happen in the near future.
I use windows only for gaming too (at home). For organisation I have my Chromebook which does everything I need.

I would have to add my code and projects to the list, but I'm already moving away forom Windows and .Net. They jumped the shark some time after Vista and .Net framework 3 and I have little hope that this will get any better anymore.

Not to sound callous, but when I heard that on the radio today it didn't surprise me one bit. Thought "well that figures." If someone in a band like Limp Bizkit off'ed themselves it wouldn't surprise me either.

It's often been surmised that Linkin Park sold their souls to the devil for the ability to never write a 'bad' song. I guess the devil has started to collect on the debt.
All jokes aside, it's sad though. I never will understand suicide. To me, it seems selfish. I may not care much for this so-called life, being stuck in a meat-bag and all, but I am not going to let life beat me without a fight.

And I used to be very narcissistic. Only thing I ever knew how to be thanks to lousy influences. It's a lonely existence, and made lonely by virtue of not caring about anyone but one own's self.
Especially to leave kids behind. Not to sound callous, but I mean seriously. I feel sorry for the kids, not him. That's being a lousy parent.

But but aren't you curious as to whether the god botherers are right, curiosity being the only reason I can see to contemplate suicide.

Seems like a lose-lose proposition. If they're wrong, you get an eternity of nothing. If they're right, then almost all of them classify suicide as an unforgivable act, and you get an eternity of torment.
The only time I could see it as a viable option is if you're terminally ill, with no prospect of being cured, and you're in intolerable pain. But then you'd at least talk it through with your family first, and have the chance to say goodbye.

I can agree with that. If you're going to die anyways and suffer immensely until it happens, why not make that trip a lot shorter and go out with your boots on.

Once you have kids, the selfishness of suicide is off the table. He had to get his children to adulthood, then if he still was a whiny, waste of body parts he could off himself.

My GF is mourning a lot - CB was her first celebrity crush and she talked basically only of LP for a bunch of years (I know it fairly well since we met during that time). Linkin Park (and Grey Daze, the previous band of Chester Bennington) had been extremely useful for her to get over her tremendous life experience, giving her the strenght needed to pull on.
They also had the same effect to me, if in a smaller intensity since they were my first step towards heavy metal and Metallica helped me more but still...

He had a lot of demons that he was very open about. That openness helped a lot of fans deal with tragedy or hardship in their own lives which they would struggle to understand or cope with.
My guess is that the Chris Cornell thing hit him a lot harder than anyone knew.

There's a "Delphi" forum. I think an MS Office forum would be nice. I'll post in Bugs & Sugs
