Whaaaaaat???
Okay, Baker wasn't very goo but Tennant, after Troughton, was the best Doctor. By far.

Look at that, a difference of opinion about who played it best! Never been here before...
If you think that, as an actor, Tennant played it best though...I'm sorry.

I've watched every doctor since episode 1 - for me Troughton was best; dark and dangerous (I was a wee child so pretty much every adult seemed dark and dangerous ).
Tennant brought a similar feel to the show as Troughton had and I enjoyed his portrayal. Matt Smith lacked eyebrows (and gravitas). Eccleston probably would have been very good if he'd stuck with it.
The actor I felt would also have been very good in the role was Paul McGann.
Anyway, yes, just an opinion.

Should have been Schwarzenegger. He would have brought a whole new slant to the role.

It's a scandal I tell you! A scandal!
Now is it bad enough that you let somebody else kick your butts without you trying to do it to each other? Now if we're all talking about the same man, and I think we are... it appears he's got a rather growing collection of our bikes.

My wife feels that same way - me, I can;t wait to see how they handle it and how different she'll be. In any case, no one bitched about The Master/Missy.
Remember, the Doctor is a FICTIONAL character - he/she is not real so it doesn't matter what they do with the character.

Yes, but they're changing the title to Nurse Who.

My sense of humour's fine. I just don't think it's funny to suggest, even in jest, that women can't be doctors, or that men can't be nurses.

The new Doctor's a woman. Therefore, "they're going to rename it 'Nurse Who'".
So how do you think that's saying anything other than "women can't be doctors"?

Says the person who's repeatedly commenting about the change of gender of a fictional character in a show they neither watch nor like.

It's making a joke about the NAME of a FICTIONAL show. It says nothing about what women can or can't do. It's you who are projecting your own insecurities and assumptions into it. Sheesh, the character played isn't even a real medical doctor, doesn't even have a Ph.D. from a university, so also not a doctor in that sense. It's just a name of a character and a show where the word Doctor has no meaning whatsoever.

The suggestion that the name of the show has to be changed to "Nurse Who" because the protagonist is now a woman is very clearly a suggestion that women can't be doctors. The fact that you can't see or understand that is rather disturbing.
It might seem like a "joke" to you, but I doubt it's even remotely funny to the women who have to listen to such "jokes" and other casual sexism every single day.

I understand how YOU can take it that way, but any reasonable person would see it as a joke about the SHOW not about women in general. So, no it's not "very clearly" a suggestion that woman can't be doctors. The show isn't even about a medical doctor. The "Dr." in "Dr. Who" is a title, a name, a meaningless word. The entire show is a joke.

It's not sexism. You are making something of it that isn't there. You are the discriminator here.
