I've thoroughly enjoyed his writing, and like his fans, am totally dismayed that Book 3, "Doors of Stone" still has no publication date.

Google says the book came out in 2007 and Skyrim in 2011. I know which way I'm going to guess assuming it's not independent creation.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, weighing all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

So that's settled. I read the book around the time Skyrim came along.

Thanks for pointing me to another book series.
I will point a couple of series to you from the last ones I enjoyed:
* Monster Hunter International, by Larry Correia (actually this one be very appealing to
@John-Simmons-outlaw-programmer also due to the extensive gun porn featured and the testosterone-laden writing). The spin offs written by John Ringo are also as good, even snarkier and rated M for manliness.
* The Dresden Files, by Jim Butcher. I never liked urban fantasy... until I read The Dresden Files. Noir atmospheres, intelligent magic depiction, snark, engaging storylines and superbly written characters.
* Codex Alera, by Jim Butcher. The first book is the toughest to read but it's six books of extreme character developement, magic, war and well written intrigues.

... but Herself has managed it!
No matter what she does, the onscreen "controls" for her favourite jigsaw puzzle game are faintly visible in all apps.
That'll be fun - the cure is apparently to put a bright white display on for "an extended period", which means she won't be able to use it ...

Hers: Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1", Android. Contains a jigsaw game.
Mine: WookieTab 12", Win10 (Android no longer installed). Does not contain any jigsaw games.
My other: Nexus 7, Android, no jigsaw, too small for her to do a jigsaw on (this is not deliberate, honest darling).

Nope.
When you install Android, it wipes your Windows partition, so you have to reinstall it.
I did not know that until after I hard reset it and installed Win10 first ...
TBH, I don't miss it - a 12" tablet is a bit huge for Android, it all looks rather Fisher Price but with a nicer display.

In my experience they are even more susceptible than CRT monitors. I had the same 15" CRT for well over a decade and played countless hours either at SCUMM games, DoomII or Wolf3D and I never had a single burnt pixel. With LCD I had the Skyrim compass faintly visible over any control fro a while, until I tried the same treatment and it went away.

Considering the staggeriong amount of hours I spent (and sometimes still spend) on Skyrim it is possible, but my wife saw it too and she dosen't play videogames

Same here, but I don't like how much they dumbed down the games with every new incarnation. Running around in Morrowind without that compass. was much more interesting.

Morrowind is a case of "Guide, dang it!" as it had a really steep learning curve and any slight error was fatal. Getting older I prefer winning when I play: if it requires me too much concentration or learning I might as well work.
But yes, Skyrim is a notch too dumbed down - Oblivion was a bit better in that regard. For the new games Mass Effect Andromeda has quite the learning curve... I'm starting to not blunder around in fights after more than a dozen hours of play.

OriginalGriff wrote: That'll be fun - the cure is apparently to put a bright white display on for "an extended period", which means she won't be able to use it ... Makes sense. On a CRT the screen is really burnt in (= the phosphor layer was damaged). This could not be repaired. A Liquid Crystal Display does not burn in. Instead, the floating crystals become a little too organized over time and remain in their positions. Showing a white screen for a time will eventually reorient them.
