Wouldn't Post Orifice be AFTER the hole is gone?

If your mail has a hole in it, very likely someone went postal.

Not gone - just a laid-back experience when your finished with it. It could, perhaps, remain nearby, no?

EA Games are giving away Dead Space for a short time, so I signed up last night and grabbed a copy.
OK, the signup process was ... um ... poor. (It took three tries before registration worked without DB error messages, and I can't use "OriginalGriff" because it contains a "prohibited word or character".)
So this afternoon I went to install it.
And you have to install "Origin" - their DRM software. Great. "Steam Mk II" coming up.
The installer is a windows EXE. And it HTML encodes < and > characters. So you get messages like
... that means it's <FAST>. <<REALLY>> fast ...

Origin sucks, way more than Steam (which I got used to in the end). It's slower, less reliable, most games are unpalyable if you're not online or the servers are dow (which happens A LOT) because it won't load any saved game if you have any DLC installed (EA games are 10% game and 59% DLC) - you should restart from scratch with only the tutorial base game.
Dead Space lasted 3 minutes on my PC: it's a console port made with the rear end and doesn't even allow remapping of controls.

I dumped Origin as well, for similar reasons. I do have DeadSpace on my phone but it is hard for me to manage the controls. I guess I'm just not as hip as the young guys.

I enjoy Mass Effect (1 to 3 and also Andromeda, though it's less memorable) too much to dump Origin but it's pretty much disabled on my PC until I decide to activate it.
Steam improved a lot, added to my 80+ games in library and the discounts it is a fixed presence as of now.

Some tech books you read just to get through and get the info.
But the best tech books you slow down so you can absorb the story.
That's what I'm doing right now with, The Linux Programming Interface by Michael Kerrisk[^]
It is a fantastic book. It builds the story of Linux Programming starting out with some history of Unix, C, GNU, etc. Really great.
The author is also maintainer of Linux man-pages so he knows exactly what he is talking about.
This is one of those books that will last, because it has great breadth and depth.
Have any of you read it?

I find it amusing that they used a fiddlehead fern as the cover picture. I wonder how many geeks actually know what that is, not to mention eat anything green.

I did not know what that was. And I never would've guessed it was an edible thing.
