Enemy Mine (1985) - a little corny in the middle, but overall a great move.
The Stuff (1985) - definitely corny, but fun to watch.
Electric Dreams (1984) - A sentient PC that tried to write love songs, a young Virginia Madsen and most of the music done by Culture Club; what's not to love.

I'll watch any Sci-fi movie once. However I have considered the following to be intellectual (no in any particular order).
1. The Abyss (1989)
2. Sphere (1998)
3. Mission To Mars (2000)
I know you said Movies only, but I found some of the episodes in Star Trek (TV Series) to be equally intellectual. I don't find Star Trek movies to be so.

"Invention". Bah, Humbug!
Now, there certainly is the realization of something possible another hasn't otherwise deduced prior to oneself doing to the same ... and patenting it.

After a lengthy thread about which sci-fi franchise is best... I declare the winners to be:
1: Stargate (except the new one which is probably yet another dumb prequel)
2: Star Trek
3: Firefly/Serenity
4: BSG (except the final episode which was excrement).
5: Red Dwarf
6: Anything by Gerry Anderson if you're under 12 years old.
7: The Terminator.
8: Doctor Who
9: Buck Rogers
10: Dark Matter (which may go to number one in the future).
I carefully added up all of the votes then changed them to suit my own bias. Like it or lump it.

Assuming you're referring to the new series, at least it didn't have that terrible final season[^] where they reach Earth and all of the kids from the ship go to school, but they've all got super-powers for some reason.
That season truly sucked donkey balls.

I have seen Black Mirror. It's pretty good, but not list worthy. The judges decision is final!

No one ever really had to tell you, yet, somehow you knew. More importantly, all the other guys around somehow knew as well.

Long long ago (ca 1970) at a campus not too far away - and by sheer accident, fourth row center.
It was, however, an indoor concert. Maybe that helped.
