Reverse Gears in MT cars[^]
Depressing the break worked like magic!
And in fact Marc & others who suggested the "Double-clutch" tip - works as well. But fiddling the break a bit works like magic. I don't know how Break is linked to the Gear! God only knows or John might know as well
In my previous car, quite serveral times, out of frustration, I'd abused the gear lever.
For example, while taking an U-turn, I'd have to take reverse a bit and adjust the curve before I could driver further. In India, while doing so, if you happen to block other cars on the way, just for FEW SECONDS, you are done! They'll kill you with their loud horns. I specifically watch out not to disturb any of these traffic-morons. But whenever I'm in need to quickly take reverse and the gear doesn't engage, I had hit it badly in frustration & I guess that's the major cause for the shaft damage.(I was told by the mechanic fixing this damage would cost around $400)
Without learning these gear-tricks, in my new car, I was just starting to do the abuses again.
Fortunately I shared the problem here! & John enlightened me with is timeless trick., Yep as rightly called by Marc, it's an "esoteric" trick.
Thanks everyone !

Just because i didn't want to participate in the initial debate, since the problem was already solved there.
How the hell can someone think about shifting gears (from 1 to rev or backwards) not pressing the clutch and the break BRAKE? Dunno but it's a natural movement for me.
BRAKE - not break
BRAKE - not break
BRAKE - not break
BRAKE - not break
BRAKE - not break

It's a safety measure, just like having to depress the clutch peddle before you can start the car.
These safety features were introduced in (I think) the late 70's/early 80's. My gen 1 Mustangs didn't have these features.

I don't see how it's even close to being the same at all.

Just do it quicker and skid the car round by pulling on the handbrake

You know, I'm usually known for my programming tips. I think this is the first time I've ever been cited for providing a useful mechanical tip -- definitely not my area of expertise. Funny thing is, the double-clutch thing I actually learned from a friend of mine when I was 20 or so...and HE was much more mechanically-wise, haha.

What surprises me is that you were shifting into reverse gear without your foot on the brake. When shifting from neutral into 1st or reverse, surely you have to have the brakes applied?
