It looks like my Yahoo Mail page has changed, with there being a big panel on the right that is empty (I think I have an existing Yahoo Mail adblocker). Yahoo gives me a dialog box asking if I want to add this Wider Mail extension, or pay $3.49 per month. This makes me think that this extension is a sneaky, evil way to somehow spam or spy on me, etc. I have tried searching for information, but the only source I can find is controlled by Yahoo, of course that is not trustworthy.

And to think there's people still using Yahoo mail. Or any product by a company called "Yahoo." Beam me up, Scotty!

OK, I get the feeling that Yahoo is now considered by the k3wl crowd to be as L7 as AOL.
What is a "better" E-mail system? Google? Outlook?
That said, it does concern me that I've got so much stored stuff @ Yahoo, as moving over to a new system would be a PITA.

I've have a retired customer in his 70's who uses an AOL email address. Doesn't use AOL to access the internet but way back when he did.

As opposed to what ? Their mail client is great, no issue in the last 20 years, available everywhere in the world. I honestly do not know why I would change.

Rage wrote: Their mail client is great, no issue in the last 20 Just 15 years ago the mail client was horrible. Their search engine was terrible. Thank goodness google beat the tar out of them.
Are they good now? No idea, I gave up on them about 15+ years ago (probably) when they were horrible.

Data that you put in the Interweb are not safe, period. It is only a matter of time that they get hacked, misused, etc... I chose to live with this, so even if my data gets stolen, I do not care. Do you think Google Mail does it better ? Or Hotmail ?

I referred mainly to

And yes, others do - and have done it - better. There is always a risk with data hosted in the web. But what Yahoo did (or better not did to secure the data) was grossly negligent.

OK, I meant that *I* had no issue with Yahoo for the usage I made of it, but sure, Yahoo did some wild things and there were probably some other nasty bugs throughout the last 20 years. TBH, I am using Outlook more today than directly the Yahoo client, but I have the Yahoo app on mobile.

I use Yahoo mail because I've had my account since 2001 and I have so many things tied to it, changing would be a major hassle. (I'll probably switch to my outlook.com account when I get sufficiently annoyed at Yahoo mail changes.)

I simply switched back to classic - the option is there, somewhere.
They asked for a comment. I told them I'm there to read my mail, not be entertained by the interface.
As for many others' comments: anything's preferable to gmail.

I used Yahoo Mail for 19 years. I grew tired of all the pointless and obnoxious "features" they kept tacking on. And every time I'd get accustomed to the UI, they changed it. I recently downloaded Thunderbird and switched to Gandi mail. Not perfect by any means, but I like it better than Yahoo. Haven't yet made up my mind about Thunderbird. It's good but not great.
AdBlock+ cleans up the Yahoo UI rather nicely but that was only a partial solution.
