Well, they did get the temperature right. Although who still uses Fahrenheit.

Murica, and durn proud of it.
Every time I read about temps in the 20's and 30's I think, what a bunch of wimps and then when I convert the numbers and see 70's and 80's (I'm sure I didn't do that math right but you get the idea). It'll be around 90 F and 65% humidity here in Atlanta. Normal summer temperature. I might even go out this afternoon and do some yard work. No shade, in cotton clothes, no wicking.
Manly.

Is there a metric equivalent to "Pint's a pound, the world around"?
The gram is a ridiculously small amount, you need 1000 of them for anything substantial.
And powers of 10 to subdivide, where's the challenge in that?

Except in the US, where a "liquid pint" is slightly over 83% of a proper pint.
(473ml vs 568ml)
PS: Don't believe Google, who now seem to think that an imperial pint is 500ml.

Having just looked at several reports on this, it's only The Mail and The Telegraph who make the assumption that it was due to the road melting, everyone else reports that the cause is still under investigation.
The assumption may prove to be correct, it may not - it's still an assumption.

Pah! That would be cool here - going to be 112 F here today and we seem to cope without an issue. We have not had the air-con on yet as the apt stays cool. Oh and also because I left a window open last week and a bird built a nest and laid an egg by the time we came home!

How egg-citing, you going to let it hatch?
Arizona area I imagine.

Yes, indeed - it can be a little noisy as the parents come and go but I don't have the heart to destroy the nest and the egg. Should hatch in a couple of weeks and then however long it takes for the hatchling to take wing and leave.
Next year, I'll leave the windows shut!
No, LA - it gets very hot where I live/work especially at this time of year.

Isn't your global warming crusade best kept to the SB? Or are the responses in the Lounge to good to pass up?

That's not a melted road. If it were there would be tracks. That's just roadbase failure.
