Printing was no problem at all. It has only few parts, which you have to print 2 - 4 times. They fit well together. It has no room to install bearings for the moving parts. Too bad, because model helicopters are mostly made of bearings and I have enough in my parts box. Also, I'm going to modify the side pieces that hold the cogs and the tracks. Instead of gluing them, I will drill some holes and install them with a few strong screws. This way I can always take it apart and repair it.
Fir the motors I have now found this[^]. A 30 amp ESC is way too strong for the robot. It could easily be used with the stronger helicopter motors. 10 amps would be plenty and the ESCs are much less expensive (as are the motors). I will look for both in the parts for quadcopters.
When I come home I can post a picture. But be advised: It's has not been painted yet and is still completely in turd.

Brush-less motors I have only used on one occasion and found they ran much hotter than brushed. So I'm guessing the current draw at start is higher (they were used on pulsed loads?) I have always used LM298's and never had an issue

glennPattonWork wrote: ran much hotter than brushed Really? The ones I use[^] don't run hot at all. Right after landing they can be touched and feel only slightly warm. Under the helicopter's canopy there is not really a strong stream of air to cool it. Just look at these values:
Quote: Input voltage: 22,2V (6S)
Max continuous current: 115A/195A (5sec)
Max output power: 2550W/4330W (5sec)
KV value: 960KV
Stator Dimension: 4230
Stator Arms: 12
Magnet Poles: 8
Dimension: 6x52x89.1mm
Weight: 380g

Well this to drive spindle in a test rig with not much air flow in a sealed chamber. So not really a fair test...

Sure, but I don't really see a reason why they should be hotter than regular brushed motors. They also just have coils and magnets. The big difference is that they have no brushes that can wear out and therefore last longer.
