Why does do not sound like no?
Suffix a 'w' and it sounds like now,
Then prefix a 'k' and it returns to know,
Could the inventor please take a bow?

Similarly, the correct way to spell "fish" is GHOTI.

Similarly I once read that Fish could also be spelled as GHOTI.
GH sounds as F like in enough
O sounds like E as in women
TI sounds like sh as in nation.
No wonder how many of my neighbors find it difficult to read in English! sheesh!

I love my land-lines.
If for no other reason than they don't follow me outside when I go someplace. Very respectful of my privacy in that way.

Strangely enough, my fondleslab rarely follows me outside either.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, weighing all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

Fondleslab . . . ? In days-gone-by, , didn't the same sort of people just use inflatable dolls?

AFAIK the term was coined here years ago (or at least I don't recall seeing it anywhere else).

I carry two smartphones (one personal, one for work) plus a watch that thinks it's a phone - Plus, until recently, I had a land-line. AT&T decided they wouldn't support land lines anymore in Baltimore - or at least that's what they eventually told me after I arranged to have one installed to replace my Verizon land-line that was being removed when I cancelled my Verizon account after getting fed up waiting for Fiber that never came! Verizon then also said they didn't support them and wouldn't put it back - even though it was working perfectly well until a few days before when they removed it.

I'm a bit surprised you were told no on getting a landline re-added. The last I'd heard outside of a few trial areas the FCC hasn't authorized dismantling pots voice service anywhere. OTOH both ATT and Verizon had been ripping out and scrapping the per customer hardware in their upstream DSL boxes every time a customer cancelled for years to prevent being able to bring any new customers onto their borderline unusably slow legacy services.
