i'm an old fogey, stuck in my ways
i really only play fallout these days
but if a game comes along that scratches an itch
i'll happily help the designers get rich.

No.
Super Lloyd wrote: game in C# per chance?! That I have. The modular service layer needs some refactoring, the homebrew 3D engine could use many more features, the homebrew UI in the 3D engine is great and always is hungry for more controls, I would need an enormozs amount of graphics and sound resources and years to complete the gameplay.

As I said, it's nowhere near complete. It would take years of work, some of which I could not really do myself. I'm not an artist. I must have posted this link to a video of it[^] a million times already.

Great ! the source code was already available for a longer time, but I didn't bother to download and compile that
I have updated my review here: best-open-source-games~star-ruler-2[^]

Interesting that the game is sold for about $25 on Steam, but the code released to open source almost a year ago, because Blind Mind Studios(the developers) closed...

Sure, why not earn a few more bucks? There is no law that forces them to tell anyone that you can now get the game for free. The days when writing and selling games was fun are long over.

It is actually seems you (anyone) can take it over now - for the fun, or the money?

The problem is that two of the components are little black holes that never really get finished themselves. One is the 3D engine, which has very specific requirements which you will not find in anything off the shelf. I doubt that there will be much interest for it. The second one is the UI which runs on top of the 3D engine. It works really well. Consequent MVP pattern, styles and views loaded from XAML markup. Of course there is always room for more. More controls, data binding, animation, dynamic layouts...

So I just picked up mongoDB documentation. I've never even touched mongo before. I've only heard of it.
Turns out its document format is nearly identical to my "struples" JSON-superset library.
It also turns out that TMDb's API is probably powered by mongo (based on the presence of the _id hash fields)
Which if true means that my more general JSON REST RPC api connects most easily with those since I designed it around a system like that.
I just won. yay!

Who the heck puts tutorial code under an Apache License?!
Now I basically can't use it, because anything I learn from it carries this huge bag on the side of paperwork, and restrictions.
Why not MIT, or heck, public domain, since it's tutorial code.
I don't get it. I just don't get it.

License shmicense!
They probably had to pick something and couldn't care less
You can learn from anything, even the most restrictive commercial license, or are they going to capture you and burn that knowledge from your brain?
Just don't copy teh codez (and possibly copyrighted ideas and methods).

my problem with that is my brain copies to memory whether i want to or not, so if i spend some time with a sample that taught me how to do something, my code usually looks a lot like it. This is truer the less I understand about the subject

Snoop Doggy Dog wasn't a dog so he changed his name to Snoop Dogg, because he was high, but he still wasn't a dog, so he changed his name to Snoop Lion, but he's also not a lion despite what the drugs make him believe.
I've also seen a Fat Joe video where Fat Joe wasn't the fattest
