I've given up changing too many prefs.
Sure settings usually survive updates,
but sometimes they don't so you have to waste time putting things back.
yeah, I know that looks like I'm falling into the ms philosophy that users shouldn't be changing things ms has set - the "we know what's best for you."
I still disagree with that, but if it's not hurting too much some even ugly windmills are better left alone, the bulldozers put away, and that energy spent somewhere else more useful.

can you name one app where changing the font preference was not reversible or corrupted other settings ?

Yes, I can. Netronics Tiny BASIC from 1979 on my Elf. The font took a good portion of the computer's tiny memory, so a simple form of compression was used to squeeze it in and actually have about 1k free for the BASIC program. Any attempt to change this font would lead to a desaster.

well font per-se can't remember off hand which - have seen it happen (admittedly some time back.)
but settings sometimes do get upset (or removed from being settable) in apps. Win 7 sometimes doing updates (esp office) would rearrange the start menu from the way I customised it...
should also say another reason I stay mostly standard with settings is moving between a few machines (sometimes at customer sites 'borrowing' another persons machine to do something quick) you can't rely on settings being the way you like, changing your font, using another persons machine see 'l' and 'O' when it's actually '1' and '0'... in particular keyboard shortcuts - expecting a familiar setting and getting another can lead to disaster. (so usually avoid those, use menu's etc.)

Everything more than a 5x3 pixel font[^] is pure luxury. Seriously, low resolution displays have not gone away entirely. If you have only 64x64 pixels to work with, this is the only way to get at least 9 lines of 16 characters onto the screen.

On that old computer, each letter would be about 2.5 cm high and 1.5 cm wide. Even on a small CRT. You don't have to be able to see them. You can feel them with your fingers.

I juggled many of these things in the past only to eventually come back to Consolas, which I think simply is the best. I was a "courier new" man before Consolas.

Hi Rajesh-ji,
I admit to feeling a strange sense of affection for those small pixelated fonts used by HyperCard, and MacroMind (later MacroMedia) made back in the Mac daze.

I hate watching great music and great musicians on YouTube.
I've got it playing. I'm into it. I'm feeling the sounds. ...and then SCREETCH - YouTube decides to stop the video and play an ad, completely destroying those beautiful sounds.

So you mean you are able to play the same?
